The CEO of Conversica, a developer of "conversational A.I.," told Cheddar on Monday that it plans to use its $31 million Series C funding round, the largest infusion of its kind in its industry, to expand its fleet of virtual assistants. Conversica currently provides A.I. "assistants" for sales and marketing, which are programmed to follow up with potential customers by email or text message and then pass the most promising leads to a real-life salesperson. CEO Alex Terry said the company will use the funding to make its assistants smarter, and also to expand into new industries. He said the company just launched an assistant for higher education admissions and has one in the pipeline for customer success departments. Terry said the company also puts its money where its mouth is by using their own assistants in Conversica's marketing, sales, and other departments.
