A Look at Colorado's Drought Problem

the Colorado River is the foundation of the american southwest, but a once in a millennium drought, 100 year old mistake and generations old conflict have put the river and that region in crisis as the southwest grows in the river shrinks, time is running out, curiosity stream finds out more in the colorado problem. Take a look. Water is essential. Our whole society is built on the availability of water every bit of water. Everybody green that you see um comes off of the Colorado River and without that this, this couldn't exist. I'm afraid that my lesson that I would take from my study of the Colorado river is that we are not. Things are not going to be wonderful in the future and right from that initial agreement, they over allocated the river, there was more water on paper in the form of water rights than there was actually wet water in the river as we started into the drought in 2000, no one knew how long it was going to last, No one thought it was going to last 22 years. Things are worse than were actually able to describe them right now because we just don't have the language or the measurements to do that. We've had this water put to use here for a long time. Our entire way of life is dependent upon it. And if that water is taken away, our entire way of life is threatened if there's winners and losers, the fighting will never stop. I've heard this stated a lot of times, there doesn't have to be winners and losers in this current drought. I'm not sure that that's the case. So where we are on the Colorado River and 100 years from now is all going to be determined by what happens in the next few years here. The stakes are high to get this right. There is a plan B and it's really ugly. Yeah. Where do we go from here? Well, I mean, that's kind of the $100,000 question, right? I mean if I had the answer then it wouldn't be a problem. Mm hmm.
