Actor Asher Grodman on 'Ghosts' And Playing a Jewish Character

you know, our next guest as the pantsless playboy, Trevor and Cbs's ghost. The sitcom follows a couple who inherit a country home, only to find out that it's already occupied by several deceased residents? So earlier this week, I sat down with actor Asher Godman to talk all about the show, take a look. Okay, you gotta tell us more about this show because you play a frat boy Trevor who has really become a fan favorite in this series. What makes Trevor so lovable despite, you know, coming off of a jerky, finance bro at times, you know, that's a good question. Um Well, first of all, the writing is so good. Our uh our showrunners joe porter joe Wiseman in the whole writer's room, find a way to walk that line where you can get away with saying some he's got some lessons to learn, but I think there's something great about the concept of the show that we're kind of going back in time, which has this allure to it, but also all of these people are kind of behind us. There are lessons they haven't learned and I think there's something very endearing about that. Um and I know when I was auditioning for Trevor, I was like, I want to bring in a little bit of like a puppy younger brother energy to him, the kind of uh counterbalance uh some of the things that he says, and does it helps that I'm not wearing pants too. I was gonna say the objective fire is immediately objectified. So that helps. I was gonna say, are you more like Trevor walking around all the time with no pants and then you like pants. I like pants. So I have to say I was just, I was just buying some clothes the other day and saw a pair of pants that I liked and in the middle of the store almost started taking my pants off to try them on and I just got a little too comfortable, I've gotten accustomed to my work life. So you know, it's not very often that I'm at least recently that I'm just in the regular world, you have to follow customs, tell the truth. You're not wearing pants right now in the U. I am wearing pants. I even, I even wore some some purple for you guys trying to oh God, alright, well appreciate that, appreciate that. But you know, one of the cool things about Trevor and talking about, you know, his growth is that he has probably arguably grown the most out of a lot of the ghosts in the series. So how has your characters are impacted the series? Wow, that's a big question. Um I think, you know, there's a growth is never linear, especially in storytelling or I should say, especially in comedy because there's gonna be snap backs and things like that. But I think there is what I love, there's a, there's a moment in the Halloween episode of season one where um Trevor uh kind of does the right thing and everyone else in the house uh is kind of taken aback and realizing that oh wow, so they were clearly wrong. Uh so it's fun to those moments where you um he's certainly the last one you expect for any sincerity to come out of. Uh so when there is that sincerity, it's always fun and exciting. So I think he gives people on their toes and um but also the fun of him is that he is this trickster troublemaker. Uh we don't wanna lose that too much. Okay, so then what about Trevor's journey? Can you relate to at all, and why are you still the trickster troublemaker, or? No, I I I probably like a teaser troublemaker. I'm very like, I really don't, I wouldn't get away with much um or be successful at much, but I think that that kind of, that puppyish, bright eyed thing, I think people would probably, or or uh whether it's naivete or stupidity, I'm sure people will associate that with me. Um and I think, and also one of the coolest things about all this is um I am jewish and being able to play a jewish character who uh even in and of itself is incredible, but also to play one that doesn't exist for the sole purpose of being jewish. That's just one of the things about him Um that is very thrilling because I grew up, like secretly hoping that maybe Batman's Jewish or Indiana Jones was Jewish, so like, this is very cool for me, that is very cool. And one of the cool things is that I'm a fan of the 90s and Trevor became a ghost in the late 90s. So what trend would you like to see come back from the 90s and why? It could be like fashion, music, movies? What? Oh my God, that's a great question. Okay, I'm gonna, so this is going to play to a very small audience but uh and truly disappointed most people you're asking this question for, but I am a big Jacksonville jaguars fan and I wish we went back to our uniforms in the nineties because they were amazing but larger stuff. Oh yeah, I had some rough ones recently. Um but they, you know, it's it's it's fun because I grew up thinking the people who were Trevor's age and generation were like that was what an adult was and that's what to be cool was. Um So I think I've since learned a few lessons um and and have moved in other directions, but there is a nostalgia to it, that's a lot of fun. But I think the only thing that I can say for sure that I would like to bring back is, you know
