Actor John Reynolds talks about his new scripted podcast series, 'The End Up,' where he lends his voice to the project. Plus, he chats about his role in 'Stranger Things' and what fans can expect from season five.

Actor John Reynolds Talks 'The End Up' Podcast Series and 'Stranger Things'

and between those back with you on cheddar news and the new podcast thriller. The end up follows terminal cancer patients who wish to end their suffering. But before any of that can happen, they have to attend a week long boot camp and chronicling the journey between two friends. We were joined by actor john Reynolds who's talked about that podcast as well as his role on Stranger Things, john Welcome to the show. So this is us G audio's first scripted podcast. What can you tell us about your character and his role in this story? Yeah, my character, his name is Benji and he's a chiller, but he's sick, he's terminally ill. So he's enlisted in this week long boot camp to help him sort of say his goodbyes and um, and his treatment actually listen, listen to a part of the podcast and it was so good. I mean, really riveting. The interesting thing about the scripted podcasts are, it's on the listener to invent what this world looks like, kind of just imagine it in our heads, what challenges go into relying only on your voice for something like this. Yeah, that was definitely different. You know, I had done animation work before voicing characters. So, um, you know, there's still some sort of visual component to it, but that was definitely interesting, you know, you do so much in a performance with your face or look or body posture. So it was new to sort of hear it back and be like, okay, so that's what it just sounds like. It was a little bit of a different performance from me. Um but yeah, it was definitely a very cool experience and something I'm looking forward to trying again. So we've seen popular tv show similar to this podcast in the sense where there's these unique worlds that everyone just gets sucked into. Would you like this podcast series to ever become a tv series? Sure it'd be awesome. It would be great to, yeah, physically embody Benji and see the world. Um but at the same time what they did with the audio here does create a very different atmosphere in a different mood. So um yeah, I love it as a scripted podcast, but of course that would be a dream to uh physical, physical eyes the story. Do you have a preference on voice acting or on screen acting and why? Well they're very different at this time. I would say I'm into voice acting because you don't have to sit here and make up for a long time and you don't really have to leave the comforts of your own home. So that is where I land in this current juncture. Okay, fair enough. Speaking of onscreen acting, many fans know you as officer Callahan on Stranger Things were obsessed with the show. Like most of the world. What has it been like to be part of such a hugely popular series. Yeah, it's been surreal. It's been wild. You know, that was basically my first big job was Stranger Things. So I know expectations and truly was like, is this gonna be good? Uh And then yeah, the fanfare, it just exploded and it's been very strange to see it. Um and yeah, I've been happy to sort of say away from all the hectic and the craziness of it, but at the same time, yeah, it's been fun to see the ride. It's been on and I'm excited for the last season and to see how they sort of wrap things up. Let's talk about that. The official Stranger Things writer's room twitter accounts and they have started working on season five. I know you can't tell us much, but can you tell us a little bit, where does Officer Callahan end up? Do you even know yet? I have no idea. And if they knew spoilers, they certainly aren't telling me. You know, they keep it very close to the chest. I don't know. I'm hoping he keeps the mustache. Yeah, I hope there's some fun stuff for him to do, hoping that hopper comes back. But yeah, I have no idea. I'm just like everybody else. I'm in the dark. I cannot wait. I cannot wait for season five. We know running up that hill by kate Bush is max's song. That saves her. So we have to know what song would save you john from Vienna, what song would save me? You know, my favorite songs always change sort of week by week What I'm listening to, but my favorite song at the current moment is butter of 69 by a band called butter of oh eight. Okay, I'm gonna check that out alright, knowing that it might save you from Vienna. That's your choice. I'm definitely gonna listen to it. The stranger thinks franchise is huge globally. It's not just in the US, How does the massive fan base play a part in this show? You kind of touched on this a moment ago? I mean, yeah, like any show the fans just sort of keep it going. I think, you know, there's expectations that the writers want to do for the fans and yeah, I think just knowing that they are there and like the show is like a huge help and it keeps the show going literally. So I would say that and what's the sentiment among the cast as we near the end of this series, john I would say it's just been a wild ride and I'd say grateful and it's gonna be bittersweet. And I think when you wrap any show, you don't really understand the impact it had on you or others until much later.
