Actor Reed Shannon Dishes on New Season of 'The Wilds'

Welcome back to Between Bells everyone. What's scarier than a show like lost or naked and afraid. How about teenagers put them together? That's the idea behind amazon Prime's hit series? The Wild? The hit show is back for season two and this time follows a new group of castaways who wind up on a deserted island after a plane crash and this will have you second guessing your next trip to the Bahamas. Take a look once upon a time to plane crashes were staged. All of the victims were dosed and stranded on two islands, eight on 18 on the other though, that number was subject to change. So joining us now to discuss is reaching an, an actor, singer and star of Amazon Prime's The Wilds. Welcome to the show Read. So season one high, so season one just focused on the girls who had to rough it out on the island now it's the boys turn tell us about your character and what fans can expect this season. Yes, Well honestly, let me first say after filming that, I definitely have second guessed every trip I play scotty said, well, hello, my name is Reed, I play scotty Simms on the wild season two. Um, he's a savvy entrepreneur and he has a best friend named bo and that, that is loyalty, right or die. You know, anybody would want that in that situation. Um, and you know, season two is, is intense and beautiful and you know, if you've seen season one or even if you haven't, I just would say that it takes it to the next level, no doubt Season one got so much positive feedback from fans, why do you think the show is so popular among viewers? You know, I really attribute that to the writers, Amy and Sarah they have done a genius job at crafting these characters that everybody can relate with. You know what I mean? Like no matter what age you are, if you're a teenager right now, you can relate because you're a teenager and you feel the weight of the world. If you're older than a teenager, you can relate because you've been there before and you know exactly what it's like and and you know, it just, it humanizes what the teenage experience is and and that's something that's necessary. I keep hearing how great the acting is on this show because the characters are so complicated there so layered and they all have their hidden intentions as you well know, how are you able to channel your character for the role? You know what um that's one of the beautiful things about, about this show and about the character that I get to play. I've been able to find a way to bridge the gap between myself and the character. And so I don't have to do so much work, but most of the time is just a matter of looking at my best friend and looking at the stranded beach that we're on and and just being like, okay, I'm I'm here, I'm in the zone, Where did you film this read? I'm curious. We were in Queensland Australia, wow, that looks really looks incredible. Yeah, very far from home. So if you're not busy enough, you also voice an animated fan favorite eco and netflix is hugely popular animated series arcane. What's your strategy for voiceovers? Because your face isn't being shown? How do you prepare for something like that? You know, the difference, I think between voiceover and like on camera acting is the level of intensity that it takes in, uh, an arcane, you know, I'm doing Echo and he's sort of like a leader and so there's a bit more grit and, and fight in his voice, you know what I mean? And so when I'm, when I'm trying to do Echo, I think to myself, like how can I say this with as much power as I possibly can without, you know, doing too much. Um and in voiceover you can never do too much. So it's, it's always a good time. You know, it's just it's a chance to go crazy and on top of everything else you produce your own music. Do you have a favorite as far as singing or acting? No, no, I love it. It's there. The passions come from the same place. I gotta say if I get a chance to sing and act at the same time, I'm in heaven. I feel like that opportunity is gonna come sooner than later. You're only 21 years old. You've had such an amazing career already. What's next for you and your career? Read you know what? I'm I'm getting my hands on everything. I can't lie. I'm, I'm, you're gonna, you're gonna get sick of my face, I'll tell you that I got a song coming out, I got, you know, the Wilds is coming out. It's it's a great, great season. Well, congratulations. I can't wait to watch. You know, I'm sure we have viewers watching who might, or aspiring actors or singers read. What advice would you give to them, man, create, create, create. Don't let anybody give you an opportunity or, or don't wait for an opportunity that somebody else can give you because there's so many resources outside, Even if you've got a iphone six, you can go outside and film a little skin and people are gonna watch. So, so make it happen. It's, it's, it's, look at the world we're living in, you know, Tiktok is around instagram reels, you, you can do it, just create, go for it and there's so much creativity out there.
