Ken Sahlin, CEO of DOMedia, discusses advertising trends ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Sahlin adds that over $1.8 billion will be spent on advertising for Q4, noting the significance of this time of year on the bottom line for retailers. We discuss DOMedia's research, which finds a rise in the use of billboard advertising this year. Sahlin notes that the surprising increase in the medium is reflective of the renaissance that advertising is going through, as consumers are constantly bombarded with online ads. Because of this, retailers are using various out-of-home venues to attract viewers in a different way. Sahlin discusses the use of geo-fencing technology to track consumers based on their location and deliver ads to them for specific outlets. We ask Sahlin about platforms like Facebook and Google, which account for 60% of all digital advertising, and what platforms like Snapchat need to do to keep up.
