Air Quality Dangerous From Canadian Wildfires

Right now, smoke from those Canadian wildfires is covering much of the country here in New York City. Some people are finding it hard to breathe. Ashley Masindi filed this report earlier today. The smoke from the Canadian wildfires has traveled 500 miles down to New York City, New York now has some of the worst air quality in the world. I can actually smell burning and Lady Liberty is right over my shoulder but you can barely see her in battery park. People were out sightseeing, but experts say that's not recommended in these conditions. The New York State DC says people should limit outdoor activities, especially the vulnerable. They also recommend taking mass transit use fans to circulate air and to set refrigerators at more efficient temperatures. New York City mayor Eric Adams was surprised by the smoke. I went outdoors and basically said, you know, what the hell is this? You know, it was, it was clear there was something different uh that was happening in the city. We don't want to end up in a position where we do see an uptick in our uh emergency departments. We are prepared, our hospitals are prepared new Yorkers say this is a first for them. It smells like, uh, a barbecue in the whole city. It kind of eerily reminds me, I dare say 9 11, I can't hardly breathe and it's, it really feels like the air is heavy and I can feel it on my face a little bit that actually is giving me a headache. Experts say the hazy conditions will continue for the next few days or until the fires die out. Ashley Mastronardi chatter news.
