Airbnb has announced new technology to enforce preventing renters from using homes to host parties and gatherings. The new anti-party tech will track factors like a guest’s age, past reviews, and the length of their stay. Airbnb has begun testing this policy and tech in Australia where they have already seen a 35 percent decrease in these unwanted gatherings.

Welcome back to Cheddar is opening bell. If you are looking to plan a Rager at an Airbnb this summer, you may want to rethink your plans. The Home Renzo company officially testing anti party technology as it looks to enforce its global ban on house parties. The technology will essentially look for any clues that given that a given guest is planning to throw a party including factors like a guest aid, the length of their stay past reviews. This comes after reports of Airbnb House party surged during the the pandemic and it seems as technology is actually working, the company says it's a 35% drop in the amount of parties since testing this feature out in Australia. Um you know, listen, this is a real issue for Airbnb a lot of the initiative or the work behind banning these parties comes you know, following a 2019 actual house party in in California at a Halloween party that ended up as a deadly you know, shooting and so since then the company has kind of made these these promises and now these implement these bands to kind of ban these house parties. But you also just on social media, if you check out Airbnb these sellers are our hosts. So many of them, I have seen posts on social media about you know renting to someone thinking it's a family or something and it winds up in a house party and their houses being completely destroyed if they have insurance there. Okay, if not, I mean this is tens of thousands of dollars that hosts have had to deal with. and so there's another part to it. Just a business that that is impacted by these house parties. Yeah, So many good points, Alicia. I think a lot of people wake up and see the story and think party foul, like I want to throw a party especially if I'm renting a more expensive house, but really good point about starting in 2019, totally forgot about that shooting. And also a lot of this has to do with public health issues. I think it was really exacerbated by the pandemic in 2020 and now we're having monkey pox outbreaks in places like California and also new york. So you can imagine Airbnb is trying to really cover all of its bases with implementing this technology, which 35% drop in Australia. We'll see if it also plays out the same way here domestically and also in Canada where they're implementing
