Alabama lawmakers have been tasked by the US Supreme Court to create a new more representative congressional map. By the end of this week, Scotus ruled that the current map which has only a single majority black district likely violated the voting right act. A quarter of Alabama's population is black Americans. Federal judges have ordered the state legislature to create a second district with over 50% of black voters. But Alabama Republicans who do hold a majority of the seats have not agreed to do so. Now, if the state legislators cannot agree on a map, the panel of federal judges will then approve one.
