Actor Alex Pettyfer joined Cheddar News to discuss “The Infernal Machine,” a psychological thriller, in which he stars alongside Guy Pearce. “You do all this preparation and you feel you're like indulging in some sort of kind of craft that you feel very pretentious about, and then you sit down in front of Guy Pearce and it all completely evaporates because he's the most down to earth normal guy," he said.

Alex Pettyfer on Working with Guy Pearce in 'The Infernal Machine'

The Infernal Machine is out now in select theaters and on digital starring Guy Pearce. It's a psychological thriller following the story of a reclusive author who was drowned out of drawn out of hiding when he begins to receive endless letters from an obsessive fan. I spoke with an actor Alex Pettyfer who stars alongside Pierce about the film and his experience shooting it. Take a look, it's basically about an author who's had Great success with his first novel, and he's struggling to write his second novel when uh sorry to say, 15 years later, when he starts receiving these strange telegrams from an anonymous individual who is threatening to expose a secret of his that he's kept since the 1st 1st novel was released. That's a good tease. Okay, and there's some pretty intense moments in this movie. How do you prepare for a role like this? Was it difficult to get into the right mindset for a psychological thriller? Uh you know what you do all this preparation and you feel you're like indulging in some sort of kind of craft that you feel very pretentious about, and then you sit down in front of Guy Pearce and it all completely evaporates because he's the most down to earth normal guy, and just to act alongside him, he's so humble and so giving it kind of all takes on a life of its own. So yeah, it was it was an incredible experience to work with him. You know, this is a far cry from your performance and magic mike. What inspired you to take on such a roll. Uh Well, originally the script was given to my production company, Dark Dreams Entertainment to co produce. Um, and when I read it and I saw who was attached, um, I tried to convince or begged the director if I could um, play the part of Dwight suffered. Um, just because as I say again, huge fan of Guy Pearce and just wanted to kind of share any kind of screen time with him. Um, so that's how the kind of the film transpired, You know, what was it like working alongside actors like Guy Pearce, Alice Eve jeremy Davis not to mention writer, Director Andrew Hunt. Like you just talked about. Yeah, my scenes were only with Guy. I've actually done two films with Alice Eve and I've never ever met her. Well, I know her as a friend, but I've never worked with her, not even been on set with her. I did another film called Warning that she was in. Um, but yeah, just to work with Andrew, who created such an impeccable vision for this film, you know, as a psychological thriller that's kind of told on a single narrative of guys, um, perspective of what's going on in his life and keep that high tension. He did a phenomenal job and to go back to me for the 3rd 4th and I'm happy to say it 100 times. Guy is uh, is an absolute delight to work with. He's so humble, completely unaware of who he is. Uh you kind of talk about these influential films that I studied growing up, like memento and um he's more than happy to sit there and talk to you and kind of tell you about the experiences he's had and yeah, just a very, very humble man, a complete gentleman. You know, we've seen so many psychological thrillers recently. Why do you think this type of film has become so popular lately? Well, I mean we go through phases like fashion. Um but yeah, I mean Hitchcock was the master of psychological thriller. Um and yeah, I don't know, I feel like we kind of want to be questioned when we are watching or studying art and kind of want to be made to think. So maybe it's appealing to some sort of human psyche. I don't know. Sure. No, that makes complete sense. Now, The infernal Machine is out now on digital. What has been the response for the movie so far? Well, I am a dad, so when I'm not here, I'm only with my little one, so I kind of ignore any sort of response is positive or negative. I always only want to take away the experience that I had while making the film, but I don't know, hopefully good. I think I've seen the film. I think it's a really incredible film. I'm very proud to be a part of it, but I don't know what the response, you know what, I think that's the best way to handle it. I truly do. Right enjoy your family and your time. What's next for you Alex? I'm about to go do a movie uh called £5, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this but £5 with Luke Evans and Rory Coquelin who I'm obsessed with from succession, so very excited about that.
