Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, after recently stating that schools should fully reopen for in-person learning this fall, the union head told Cheddar that the focus on safety mitigation from President Biden and the ongoing vaccination efforts, has made her optimistic that such a goal will be achieved. Meanwhile, she also agreed with Los Angeles teachers union head Cecily Myart-Cruz who spoke with Cheddar on Thursday that more must be done to address the needs of the hardest-hit minority communities to make it all happen. "Kids need to be back in school, but we also need to make sure families live a dignified life," Weingarten said.
