There may be a link between obesity, diabetes and kidney disease. The American Heart Association has identified a new type of heart disease. It's called cardiovascular kidney metabolic syndrome or CKM. The association has released an advisory today in the medical journal circulation in the aim of getting earlier diagnosis and treatment to high risk people. According to the advisory lead author, we're seeing the health consequences of all these conditions interacting and leading to earlier presentations with heart disease. Another cardiologist described it as a game changer in how patients are treated.
