A group of Apple workers — appropriately called Apple Together — launched a petition drive against the company's order that requires employees to work in the office at least three times a week. Protesting employees are calling for a more flexible work schedule determined by the workers and their managers. Cheddar News’ Kristen Scholer and Chloe Aiello question whether “this really goes anywhere, considering there are only a couple 100 signatures” out of a global workforce of 165,000.

Apple Employees Push Back Against Return to Office Plan

Another story that we're following a group of Apple employees pushing back against the company's return to office order tech giant recently telling workers to return to the office at least three days a week, starting September five the group Apple together saying it represents current Apple workers and launched a petition asking the company to let employees decide their own work arrangements with their managers as worker. I don't wish to seek higher level approvals. Well, it says employees who want more flexible work arrangements have valid reasons including disabilities, health concerns in the fact that some are happier and more productive and flexible work environments. The petition is several 100 signatures, which is just a fraction of Apple's global workforce California based Tech giant is more than 100 and 65,000 employees. I'm not surprised to see this. I mean three days a week is kind of meeting people in the middle to some extent it's a hybrid option but we have seen that workers have been able to successfully use their voice these past 2.5 years of the pandemic and even though it's a small fraction it'll be interesting to see where this goes. I agree kristen and you know, we have seen google employees in the past be really vocal, you know, take a leadership roll with some important issues. So I'm curious to see if this really goes anywhere, considering there are only a couple 100 signatures, I think this does bring up though a bigger conversation about, you know, worker rights and in a tight labor market which we still are under. Obviously that could possibly change depending on, you know, whether or not we really enter into or start feeling the effects of this, you know, technical recession that we've been discussing, but, you know, these companies have in the past been really forced to offer attractive perks to get high level employees. And, you know, google is one of these tech companies that you might expect to be a little bit more flexible here.
