Be Well: Best Disinfecting Products to Clean Your Home

Well, there are some products that can help us stay healthy from fall germs. So here with some great suggestions to help ward off nasty germs is the director of the kitchen appliances lab for Good Housekeeping Institute, Nicole Pa and to the thanks so much for being with us. Ok. So first I want to start with the difference between sanitizing and disinfected. So the biggest thing to remember is disinfecting kills bacteria and viruses while significantly reduces the amount of bacteria on a product. Ok. So I know you brought some stuff with us including a stuffed animal. So this is, I guess our first product is a Clorox, one of it's free and clear, you pick it. So this is a disinfecting mist. It actually won a cleaning award this year. What's really unique? And you could use it on hard surfaces and soft surfaces and it deodorizes. Did you see how long I just, it covers a really wide surface and it doesn't have a fragrance. So you can use it on your kids toys, you can use it on your pillows, you could use it on the blankets, something that it won't linger and it'll feel really good. OK. So I was just asking you off camera about my weighted blanket because you can't throw it in the washing machine. So something like this would be OK for that and it'll help sanitize it. So you can only sanitize soft fabrics, they'll never fully disinfect, but you can reduce the amount of bacteria. So this is all my kids toys. Anything, even my pet toys. Yeah. But if you do it on hard surfaces, it does kill 99.9% of bacteria. Ok. I like it. Now, what is this? This is an air sanitizer and it's the first air sanitizer that can actually kill viruses too. So, like if somebody just sneezed on the subway, I can spray it there and that would be hilarious. Ok. I mean, can I take it home? Exactly. So, can you just go into the center of your room? Spray it for 30 seconds in a waving motion and it will trap the microorganisms in the air and you're killing bacteria? Ok. So, wait a second. So, if my husband comes home and he's sick and he's coughing in the house, right? That, this is what that's for. Exactly. So, I like that one. Ok. So, now why did you choose this one? So people might not know that you can disinfect, you can sanitize all you want. But once you touch it, you reintroduce germs and they can start growing again. Ok. So micro ban helps prevent that for 24 hours. And if you use it consistently could help mold and mildew as well. Now, what would I spray this on? So, they have different types of products. We have a multi purpose cleaner. We have a bathroom cleaner and on your hard surfaces. Ok. So my counter in my bathroom, my kitchen stuff like that. Or even what about like my sofa? No. So these are for the hard surfaces? Ok. So not that. Exactly. So that's where you could use the Clorox for the soft one. Ok, great. And now we've got to get into the laundry. Yes. So one thing that people may or may not know is your washing machine doesn't always sanitize your clothes. Some have cycles that it does sanitize. So it reaches its high temperature, it's a longer cycle. But if you don't want to sanitize everything, you can use this product sprayed on something that really needs some extra attention and the clothes that my kids wore to school and who knows what is going on. Exactly. Something a little extra stinky that you want to give my gym clothes like that spray them and you don't have to run entire cycle. Ok. So that would be this one, right? So this is a fabric sanitizer odor stain. So that is good. You want to let it sit and always look at the package instructions to see how to use the product. That way that will ensure that it's the maximum protection. Ok. So if it says let it sit for 2 to 4 hours, don't just throw it in the wash do that for right. That it's tested that way. It's how they recommend to do it to really follow the instructions. Ok. So what's the difference between these two? This is more of a spot like I need underarm area and this is just, this is for the entire load. So if your cycle, if your washing machine doesn't have that sanitizing cycle or even if it does, this is that extra booth that will sanitize everything in there. Ok, great. So my sons will cross clothes. Get it. Exactly. And now what about these towels? So same thing with the towel. So if they're just like me again, need that extra love, use the sanitizer and clean them. Ok? And then last, but not least we have a wife. I believe I have those in. These are disinfectant wipes. So what's different about these is that they use natural cleaners to clean. So there's, is that its seventh generation. We love how transparent they are about the ingredients that they use. We like the smell of it. And natural cleaners usually take a little bit longer to do what they say they are going to do than your regular chemicals, but they're great and we love them. I wish this was Supermarket Sweep and I can just put all these things into my car. Thank you so much.
