Be Well: How to Make A Dorm Room Feel Like Home

Going away to college can be a huge adjustment. So just in time for back to school, we've got everything you need to make your dorm room feel like home dorm is your one stop shop for dorm room essentials and Hot Decor trends. So, co founder, Amanda Zuckerman is here with the must have items for our packing list. I'm so excited to have you here and I mean, we have so much to get to, but it seems like the number one thing you have is anything with a charging? Ok, everyone is loving the essentials that you have that we have for our dorm room that have something to plug your phone into. So we have our three door charging cart that goes directly right next to your bed. It has um the right height for a lofted bed. You store everything that you need bedside and then you can plug in all of your technologies so that you can Tik Tok from bed. Everyone. Oh, because that is the thing. Exactly. So your parents can reach you and you can't say I don't have a charge phone. Exactly that too. Um And then the other must have for college right now is a headboard. So we love our um charging headboards, another charging product where you can actually put the headboard, adhesive, um stick it to the wall, it plugs in all of your devices and it totally upgrades your look. I never even thought about a headboard because usually it's just a very stale bed is like or, or metal that really gives you right. And it works in any dorm room because it just goes directly on the wall. No assembly required. Number one seller at door. I love it. And when we are packing, this is something really great. Yes. So this is double duty. It's a great piece to pack everything that you need for college, whether it's your clothes, your essentials, your decor pack it all up, throw it in the car, ship it and then use this for all of your um out of season clothing sheets, towels, put it under your bed so that you have a purpose for it. Once you actually get into the room and we have a couple of different colors. It's great, but this is very beautiful. It's very bright. You mentioned sheets. Do we still have to get those extra long sheets? We do. It's the required size for college and um it's the focal point of your room. So you wanna think about your bed being um your neutral palette to then accessorize and personalize it. So bed uh white bedding is really popular. Um, but also this floral pattern, it's really popular this year. Um, it's the ditzy floral botanical trend. People call it Cottage core or coquette, but the girls are loving. Yes. Yes. And I know it looks a lot, a little bit old fashioned, but this is very in and um girls are accessorizing it with all different types of colors. I'm not liking this, but I love so. Yes. So throw pillows are a great way to personalize your bed. Super soft options. Lots of fuzz and um it's a great way to bring in color. Sage green has been a really popular color this year. So we're seeing it in headboards, bedding, accessories all over the room and now the lighting, yes, lighting is essential. So when you walk into your first dorm room, you will be shocked by how bad the lighting is. The overhead fluorescence. Never turn them on. Yeah, never turn them on. Bring in your own lighting. You need a lamp for your desk, you need um decorative lighting to set the mood. I would do a floor lamp as well. So this is a great one to put on your desk or on your charging bedside table, it actually has built in um ports for charging as well. Everything has an outlet and um we also have some decorative lighting options here too. That personalization in your room is what every single student is doing. So um neon signs have been a really hot trend over the last year or two and I see them everywhere, um, in people's rooms. So, basically everything that is old is new again. But that's what I think this is what an led. Yeah. So that's good because it won't get hot. Exactly. You just put some adhesive on the back, stick it up. Um, and there's a nice and easy cord to plug it in. Ok, great. Let's move to this side of the table. This looks very. Yes. So that's another dorm essential. Um, typically freshmen have communal bathrooms. So, um, this is a great one because it actually has a long strap that you can pull out and kind of wear it as a toe. You can carry it to bring all the different things with you. Exactly. Yeah. All right. Great. So I'm guessing. Yes, this is one of my all time favorite products and it's actually flipped over. Um, so you guys can see the top of it, but normally you would flip it back up and it has shoe storage for nine pairs of shoes. Now, if we flip it, what happens, you can flip it. Can you flip it? Yeah, go ahead. Go all the way over like this. No, no, no, like this. So it's an ottoman and oh, you have this reveal. It's an ottoman. Um, but you can fit nine pairs of shoes in here. There's a lid that you can put right on top and it actually turns into a chair. So you put, it's a triple, uh, triple threat, yeah, storage seat and, um, even a desk chair, you can replace the chair in your room. Ok. And now what do we have right here? That is a bed caddy. So the way that this works is you actually flip this underneath the mattress, you put the mattress right on top and it hangs over. So if you don't have space to put a nightstand next to your bed, you can put everything that you need in arm's reach in that bed caddy and you can actually slip in a um power strip so you can connect all of your cords that way. But it's a really um great space saver for anything that you need right next to you. And even like, uh I mean, I'm just thinking in my own life, obviously, I don't live in a dorm, but like you could use that to put your mode in there because I feel as though we're always your glasses, put your room on my night time lotion. Yeah, all the bedside essentials go right there. Now you mentioned storage and I think one of the great things that we used to use are these boosters to get your bed a little bit higher off the ground, so you can slide everything you need on your right. Yeah, so that's pretty common now to loft your bed up and if your um provided furniture that your school gives you doesn't allow you to loft it. You definitely need some bed risers, but of course, it has a charging capability so you can plug anything in there. And a lot of it has a USB as well. Although these days you need USB and USB C. So you gotta double it up. But I love the our headboards have the USB C. So see you got us covered right? And you need four of these one for each leg of the bed, one for each leg of the bed, lift it up and you need to maximize every single inch of the under bed. Space stack, a bunch of these bags put um your Ottomans underneath, you can pull it out to use as a step stool to get onto your bed also. And then we have a bed skirt that's actually covering the table here to show you how you can make your room look more tidy by covering everything. That's oh, because it will dry and then you just pick it up and it doesn't look so messy and everybody sees everything super polished. Yep. Now, do the kids do a good job of keeping their rooms clean when they have all of these things? Does it make it a little bit more streamlined or they still gonna just be me? I guess it depends on the personality. It will be very cool. That's what we need eventually, eventually. But we try to, you know, spread the tools to allow them to store everything that they need because they bring their entire lives to school. So we appreciate it, co-founder of Dorm, Amanda Zuckerman.
