Benjamin Hollingsworth Talks Potential Love Triangle on 'Virgin River'

max between bells, everyone move over new york city, we're going to Virgin River fresh off the release of its fourth season. The hit netflix show follows nurse practitioner mel as she navigates her new life in the small California town. This new season brings back all the familiar faces we've learned to love including our next guest who plays brady in the series. I sat down with actor Benjamin Hollingsworth to discuss the series and what we can expect from season five, take a look. Benjamin, you play brady, one of Jack's old marine buddies in the series. The fourth season picks up right where the previous season ended. That's what brady's arrest of course. Where are you hoping to see brady go in the show? Well I don't hope that he stays in jail for very much longer. Um Orange really isn't my color. Um but yeah, you know, I really hope that he finds his way out of this whole shadow of shooting Jack. I feel like um it's kind of, it's kind of surrounded him for a full season and it would be nice to, you know, fully be in the clear. Yeah, because brady does seem a little misunderstood by everyone except his girlfriend bri. How does their relationship dynamic impact brady's role with the bad crew that he's involved with in the show? I think brie helps brady kind of find his way out of some of those shady characters and actually allows the audience to see kind of a softer side of brady. We're used to seeing him be this kind of broody badass kind of character that's that's kind of misunderstood as you mentioned and then he's got a lot more going on underneath and through bri the audience gets to see what that is. So speaking of brady and brie apparently they are the best couple in the series. That's what a lot of fans of the show think. We see brady sort of turning a new leaf. For example, showing up for bri at Joey's wedding, would you like to see brie and brady walking down the aisle next? Oh my goodness. Yeah, I mean, could you imagine that? I uh it'd be great, it'd be a great scene for sure. Even just the proposal and that's just like shows even the fact that you're thinking like that, how far brady's comment is emotional maturity and and um yeah, we're certainly, we certainly have a I think we call them fans on the show, but Zb Allen who plays brie is a wonderful actress and even better person and and we have a lot of fun um when we when we do our scene, so I'm glad people like it. So Benjamin, I have to ask you who's your favorite couple in this series? Oh, that's a great question. I really like um I mean obviously Jack and mao. Um but I I also really like doc and hope, I think there's something really interesting about an elderly couple having that type of relationship. Obviously you've got the bickering. Um but you also have these two people who throughout life have grown into this mature, understanding what a couple can be, it's not just your typical cardboard cutout. This, there's a lot of complexities to it and I think they do a great job of playing that. Mike is also a former marine who toured with Jack and brady. It seems like Mike might be coming for your girl. Do you think we'll see a love triangle in the future? Yeah, it does seem like he's coming from my girl. Um uh you know, I I think you probably will, I think you'll probably, you know, we're in the middle of shooting in the start of shooting season five and so we're seeing some stuff um kind of come to fruition, but I can't give you any spoilers or they will um I'll be scolded as I have in the past. Um but yes, I I think I can safe to say, I feel, I feel like a love triangle is in the future here, You know, there are times in the show when something happens so unexpectedly and it just completely shocked viewers. How do you feel when you get these scripts and see where these storylines are going? Doesn't ever give you anxiety or excitement reading it for the first time. Yeah, I mean, we turn into fans ourselves after a while, we really, you know, are itching to read every script when it comes in and as soon as it's sometimes it comes in at like 10 pm or at night, you know, and I don't know about other cast members, but for me personally, I stay up and read it right away. Um, always curious to see what's happening. There always seems to be some twist or cliffhanger at the end. Um, and I can tell you season five will not disappoint either. It's very much so far, much of the same of of that kind of lots of twists, lots of terms and a lot of things you didn't see coming. So in late july, the official Virgin River instagram account shared a cast photo at a table read for season five. I know you can't tell me much, but if you had to describe the season in three words. Benjamin, what would it be? All right. Let me think I would say hot and, and not the way you imagine with brady, um, a different kind of steamy um, which, which is ambiguous enough that I think I can say. Um, and uh, and I think you can, I think Triangle for sure can be in there. Um, and then I think, I think it's unexpected. I think steamy triangle unexpected. I like it. No, that's good. I like it. Yeah, that's very intriguing. So let's switch gears a bit. You also have a new hallmark film romance in style coming out. This film highlights, body positivity. What was it like to work on this project, you know? Um it was amazing. I have a one year old daughter, I have three kids and she's my first girl and you know, the reason why I signed on to do this was because it was about body positivity, which I think is a really important thing, especially nowadays with all the social media that are, that are youth and even us, you know, are exposed to, we have this kind of obligation to fulfill this idea of what we all should be. But I want my daughter to grow up in a world where she can look in the mirror regardless of her shape and size. She can feel beauty and love and value and if I can help exact that change then um sign me up.
