Best Friends Animal Society Calls for More Adoptions to Ease Overcapacity at Shelters

Right guys. It's special be kind to animals week, which you'd be doing anyway. So there's no better time that for our cheddar segment, which is our weekly segment all about our love of pets for us to bring in our friend Elena Hopman, uh from Best Friends Animal Society and she's brought a little friend for us named Heaven. Uh Elena tell us all without heaven. I have to walk over here. My director is gonna kill me, but I have to walk over here and see Heaven. Tell us about him. Heaven is eight weeks old. He came from the Best Friends Animal Society Sanctuary in Kanab Utah and he is like super kissy, very friendly. He is a total love. We just got him in New York City via Atlanta and he is up for adoption with a couple of his litter mates. Oh, so cute. And he, what would you say? Maybe 40 £50 as, as he gets older. It's hard to tell because he is an adorable superman. But um I would say a medium sized dog and I love the spots on his ears, all of that stuff. Uh By the way, this is a May Mental health Awareness month. So, what are a few ways of pets can be a part of our mental health routine. So, routine is what it is. They get us out, they get us up, they make us walk, them, feed them, play with them on a schedule and schedule is so good for our mental health. Absolutely. And my dog, I'm sure yours as well can feel when I'm anxious or uncomfortable and they're really sort of good at sort of going after you and helping you deal with your stress. How can your dog another way, sort of help you when you're stressed. Well, one thing that dogs do and cats is, it gives you a lot of responsibility and the responsibility helps self confidence and self worth, but also just by holding a dog or cat and when they look at you, it releases oxytocin, which is the love hormone and dopamine. And that can really help with anxiety and depression. And I mean, what could make you happier than holding this natural little mood booster? Oh, I know. And now my directors are making me move back over here away from them. Uh, we know it is national be kind to Animals week, which by the way you should be doing that anyway. What is one thing we can all be doing right now for our pets? Ok. So the number one thing that we can all be doing is getting out there and adopting, adopting and fostering pets in need. Right now, there's a shelter, crisis, shelters across the country are at capacity or over capacity. So, if you get out there and adopt or foster, you're helping best friends take the country.
