Best Screen-Free Toys for Summer Road Trips 

Welcome to Cheddar News. I'm do from Cheddar studios in New York City. Hi, good morning, everyone. I'm Baker. Why do I feel so small next to you? You are small, right? School is almost out for the summer, which means a lot of families are planning summer road trips here to give us some tips on which toys are best to bring along on the road. Is editor in chief at Toy Insider. Marissa Silva. Welcome back, Marissa. We always love seeing you. Thanks for having me. This is normal height. Yes, exactly. Yes, I'll just, I'll just stand up here. So Marisa, good to have you here. So to have advised parents to cut their teens screen time, say no more than an hour or so of, of screen time they should be using per day for kids between two and five. Uh So what's recommended for kids under the age of 18 months? Yeah. So we've got really great toys here that will keep hands busy, minds engaged without the use of screens. We're gonna start with something from Melissa and Doug. They're really well known for wooden toys. Great sensory play. This is the work and play desktop. So kids are seeing parents work from home quite a bit now and they can, like, emulate that experience with this. They've got a little laptop that has a cute little mirror, a little coffee cup, a mouse, lots of things to press. Even a little rolodex to scroll through all their contacts. I wish I had that as a kid. Yeah. Yeah. And it folds flat and has a nice little handle so you can take it anywhere with you. Love it. What about kids? Aged 2 to 5 years old? Yes, you can't go wrong with creative play. Even when you're trying to keep them busy, like at a restaurant or when you're out somewhere. Creola, they're the kings of creativity especially mess free. So this is color Wonder. These are special markers and coloring pages that don't the markers do not show up on fabric skin. I'll show you you can, you can literally draw right on your skin. Draw right on. That is amazing. Look at that. Yeah, it just looks like a water mark. Yeah. Very cool. But it comes these folder lopes come with 18 coloring pages featuring all of kids' favorite characters. So this will keep them busy for a nice long one. My parents would have loved this doodling on the wall growing up how angry my, my poor parents were. So now let's talk about kids, five and older here. They're usually harder to sort of distract in the car, they tend to gravitate to the ipad. So, what should we be doing? Yeah. So check out the magna tab. This one's really cool. This was around when I was a kid. You want to give it a try. I got this little stylist. The, these are the magnets have minis and what you do is you're gonna point that stylist right on to those little magnet pieces and they just kind of pop up. So this is like a little bit of sensory play then you can kind of your finger over all the little magnetic balls and they drop right back down. So you wanna play. Yeah. Very cool. Yeah, like under 10 bucks too. So a really great price point. Yes. And let's talk about kids. Seven it up. Yeah. So another one too for that age range is uh cry babies. Little changers. Kids love really teeny, tiny, tiny little toys, right? It's like a thing. Yeah, absolutely. So these are, it's like a really cute little play sets you get the mini diamond that just came from. But what's really great about little changers is this is completely plastic free. No, single use plastics. Everything is made of recyclable material. So kids are gonna get a little eco friendly lesson while they play. We have less than a minute left. All that driving gonna tire any kid out. Do you have any recommendations for toys that help kids wind down and fall? Yeah. So Tony's is a must have for every age group. This is the sleepy sheeps. It's got a little night light inside. But when you place it on the Tony box, it also plays melodies to kind of lull kids to sleep. Does that work for adults? I putting my daughter to bed with this many, many times. Oh, I love that.
