The Big 10 Conference, which recently agreed to add the Pac-12’s UCLA and USC to its powerhouse roster, has signed a media rights deal with Fox, NBC and CBS worth a whopping $7.5 billion over seven years. Wall Street Journal sports reporter Laine Higgins joined Cheddar News’ Closing Bell to discuss how recent developments have disrupted the college sports landscape, particularly in football. “What is changing is the presentation on the networks, and the draw for teams like Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State is just bigger, and that's why they're being rewarded with such big contracts. And it changes the dynamic where once we had five conferences that were really leading the charge in terms of media rights and exposure, and now it's sort of consolidating to really just two,” the Big 10 and the SEC.
