We are less than a month away from the return of the NFL, and it will come as online gambling continues to surge across the country. Earlier this year, New York approved online sports betting, which will allow state residents to place bets on the NFL throughout an entire season for the first time ever. The change, along with online gambling recently becoming legal elsewhere, will likely lead to record levels of sports betting on pro football this year. “We will no doubt see the most sports betting wagers in the history of regulated American online sports betting in a few weeks when the NFL Week One kicks off,” says Charles Gillespie, founder and CEO of Gambling.com Group, as he joined Cheddar News' Closing Bell to discuss what to expect in sports betting this football season.

Everyone, Let's turn to the biz of sports were less than a month away from the return of the NFL and it'll come as online gambling continues to surge across the country with new york launching online sports betting earlier this year, residents of the state will be able to place bets on the NFL throughout an entire season for the first time ever. That along with online gambling recently becoming legal in other states will likely lead to record levels of sports betting on the NFL this year. Just as the season is set to kick into high gear, joining me now is Charles Gillespie founder and Ceo of gambling dot com group provides digital marketing services for the global regulated online gambling industry, Charles, thanks so much for joining. So I know we're expecting a really big NFL season. Your company saying NFL betting set to see its highest volume ever to start this season. What more details can you share? Well, NFL is certainly the sport that's bet on most uh, and with Arkansas Louisiana and Ontario having gone live since the start of last year's NFL season, we will no doubt including new york of course, as you pointed out earlier, we will no doubt see the most sports betting wagers in the history of regulated american online sports betting In a few weeks when the proper NFL. Week one kicks off. How does your company Charles Help with this? How can consumers use your company to take advantage of sports betting. Well, as your, your viewers are surely aware, it's kind of complicated, right? Every single state has different online gambling websites that are available, it's not like there's some universal group that's available in every single state. So if you're in New Jersey or New york is different, even though they're right next door. So, um we published a number of different websites which help sports bettors in different states, across the United States basically figure out what what is actually available to them, what the best offers are, what the best odds are, and essentially just get up to speed to make sure that they're uh educated consumers when it comes to actually betting on sports. So what do consumers need to know if they're looking to bet big on sports this season Charles? I think the biggest thing is to understand uh you know, not every advertisement out there is for a regulated uh and and and legal online gambling website. Online gambling is not new to America. What's new is regulated online gambling. So, um it's worth taking that extra step to just look into whatever website it is that you're thinking about opening an account at, to make sure that that website is actually regulated in whatever state you happen to be in, where you're trying to place your bet, what is it about the NFL that makes it basically the breadwinner when it comes to sports betting. I know it is make or break season, right, when it comes to the NFL season for sports betting operators. Yeah. You know, if you look at other countries, the dominant sport is um you know, 2020 30% of the, of the take. Whereas in the US NFL being the dominant sport, it's it's frankly significantly more than that. It's the next closest would be N. B. A. And that's that's um you know, even though there's a lot more NBA matches the handle that you would see on an individual NFL event, um simply outstrips anything else. And it's not even really close. Um you know, it's America's sport. Uh it's a great betting event. There's there's so many different moments within the game that you can bet on. You know, the kind of start stop nature of the event allows people to kind of make a bet on every single play. Uh And and that uh interactive nature and very data driven nature. You know, you get fantastic statistics that come from american football. Uh Not so much from european soccer. Uh And and that, you know, has led to of course an entire industry around fantasy sports and tracking individual player performance. And that is now driving a unique offering and type of sports betting in the United States where players are really, you know, they they're kind of used to that fantasy background and they like to bet on individual player performance. So Charles, how much money are you expecting will be wagered on the NFL season this year, when it comes to sports betting and any particular teams or players who could see the most betting action well at this stage in the season, people are placing their bets for, you know, who's gonna win the Super Bowl next year. And, and most of the money at this stage is going down on the bills, the bucks and the Chiefs, um, in terms of absolute figures, it's it's very difficult to say, but what we can all be sure about is that the amount wagered over this NFL season will be incorrect. You know, there will, there will be unbelievable growth against the numbers we saw last year. Um, you know, we're hoping to see another couple of states come online during this NFL season. You've got Kansas, which is probably the next one to go. Then you've got massachusetts, Ohio is probably gonna launch on january 1st. Uh, you know, and, and then Maryland is somewhere in the mix as well. So you've got about 100 and 15 million americans that have access to regulated sports betting and by the end of the NFL season, you probably have another 30 million on top of that.
