let's get you caught up on some of your top entertainment headlines, we're following for you this hour and the billboard music awards were handed out on sunday night, Drake made history. He won top artist for a record third time. However, Olivia Rodrigo was the big winner of the night. The pop singer won seven awards, one of the strongest showings by a new artist in the show's history. She took home awards for the top female artist, top streaming artists and even top billboard 200 album. Other winners included Doja Cat, who won four awards. While BTS 13 Janet Jackson presented mary J. Blige with the billboard icon award and Diddy Diddy, he was the evening's house and also performed with BRyson Tiller, Jack Harlow and Teyana Taylor Travis scott also performed, marking his first public performance, major public performance since his Astral World Festival last november. That of course where 10 people were killed and thousands were injured. I do want to go back to P Diddy for a motor. Did, did he? He was interesting as a house last night. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah, so he, he said obviously because morgan Wallen was performing last night all he was talking also about Travis scott as well, that he was officially uncanny telling everybody that was, had been canceled before because that's why they were performing, but there was many times that Diddy who, by the way, was also the executive producer of last night's awards show, He went really off script like you could tell, he was like not reading the Prompter and he was refusing to do. So calling up his personal butler to give him shots of Sirach while he was up on stage. So that part was a little strange. But the music performances were really always our billboard nails and they were really good. Silk sonic was really amazing last night. Megan, the stallion who, by the way, won best female rap artist last night beating Cardi B last night. She had an incredible performance last night as well. The dresses were really great. Doja Cat had a really amazing outfit last night, probably one of the better dressed of the night as well. So it was just fun to sort of see the billboard music awards back on last night as I was looking at the winners. That's everybody I would have voted for by the way. The categories are really tight last night. It was really good because a lot of the categories only had three nominees a lot of times when you watch these award shows, they have like 8 to 10 nominees. These ones were really condensed. So it really pitted a lot of really big heavyweights against each other and let's go to the box office. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took a hefty fall in its second weekend but still landed at number one. The marvel movie took home $61 million of 67% drop compared to its record debut. Just last week. The drop is very similar to the 67 a half percent drop. Spider man, no way home had in its second weekend, but the spidey film had the third biggest opening of all time Regardless. Sam Raimi's film has made just under $700 million dollars worldwide. Not bad. The bad guys and sonic, the hedgehog two remained two and three. Well, fantastic beasts. The secret of dumbledore fell out of the top five. That movie will do just fine. Spider man continued to do. So I'm still surprised that batman was knocked off as quickly as it was. But I think these marvel movies are gonna do just fine. Oh absolutely. So so it's some interesting things here. Sorry, the hedgehog sixth week now in the top five, which is really doing so it continues to show family movie is doing really, really good. I want to talk quickly about firestarter. Have you seen this? This is a Stephen King remake of a movie from way back I think in like the eighties or nineties, vaguely remember a book. Yeah, yeah, so this was Drew Barrymore actually was in the first one. So they did a remake, Zac Efron plays a dad in this role which is also weird clearly. And it's also streaming on Peacock at the same time. Got about $2 million at the weekend box office even though it has a 12% rotten tomatoes score. But here's something I thought you would, you would find to be really fascinating. The film in 1984 the original story, Drew Barrymore actually got higher numbers at the box office in 1984 4.7 million than it did then firestarter did this last weekend at 2022 that is also with inflation adjusted. You think this is because it also came on a streamer. They could be, but I also feel like it wasn't getting a lot of positive buzz and 12% score on rotten tomatoes. This is what I would expect more buzz. I know, but I also it's so weird. I kind of want to see what Zac Efron's like as a daddy like right following backlash over gay chappelle's stand up special, which has been called transphobic, which it was. And his first subscriber loss ever. Netflix now is a message for its employees. You may want to work on content if you don't agree with it and if you don't like the content, you can just quit. The streaming giant updated their culture guidelines, adding a section called artistic expression, which details how netflix offers a variety of programming for many audiences. It reads, quote. We let viewers decide what's appropriate for them versus having netflix sensor specific artists or voices. Now the message continues by saying quote, if you find it hard to support our content, breath on netflix might not be the best place for you. This is reportedly the first update to its culture guidelines since 2017. Netflix interesting. Yeah, exactly. So Netflix in this section in particular goes on to say as employees, we support the principle that netflix offers a diversity of stories. Even if we find some of the titles and content counter to our own personal values, but depending on your role you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful if you find it hard to support our content breath, netflix might not be the right place for you. So let's just say you're a trans worker working at netflix and let's just say you rightfully find some of the content that Dave chappelle says completely transphobic you instead of complaining about it and and obviously raising a flag about it. You are according to netflix should just quit your job as a result of that. I find that to be so ridiculous. You don't think other companies will follow suit Well. So this is where it's interesting because netflix is cutting costs. They're now saying especially in this memo right here that they want to spend their their users money more wisely. Um and look, the content wars are becoming much more difficult right now. So maybe they're thinking okay, these people will go to another content platform but their problem, I think they're the problem for netflix is they want to stay in bed with these content creators. They want Dave chappelle Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes all these people to stay in bed with them and do content with them and they would rather risk losing employees than risk alienating these creators and having these creators go to HBO max or to Disney plus or somebody else but a public persona. This just isn't a good look. I know exactly. All right. And let's talk about Top Gun Maverick. It will premiere at the 75th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival this week. However, there won't be an after party and who do we blame for that? The Royal Family Tom Cruise is expected to get an all star welcome ahead of the special screening of the long awaited sequel. However, there won't be a party afterwards because Cruz has to fly to London that evening. According to the Hollywood reporter, the actor is set to play a starring role in Queen Elizabeth's ongoing platinum jubilee celebrations, which means he has a red carpet to hit on thursday night, but this time around, it's with Prince William and kate Middleton. The thing is, this won't even be Cruz's first royal experience this week on sunday. He was among the host for a major televised event at Windsor Castle to celebrate the Queen's 70 years on the throne. There's so many reports that cast and crew members are really upset. There's no after party do we need tom Cruise for the after party just because tom Cruise has done everything already to sort of promote this movie. So I don't know what else he would have done at the party that would have made people be like, wow, this movie really is so amazing. If you want to know how amazing the movie is. Read the reviews, just read the reviews. It is 97% right now on rotten tomatoes. And I just want to read a tweet from Mike Ryan who is a film editor over at approx. This is what he said about Top Gun. He said, I wrote about Top Gun Maverick. It's one of the best summer blockbusters I've seen in a long time. It's not just a movie I like, it's now one of my favorite movies ever. It's one of the best theatrical experiences I've ever had. I've bought a Top Gun Maverick poster. I honestly cannot remember the last time I did that for a new movie. That is what the reaction is from critics on this one I'm gonna be in the theater for. But that's crazy if you want to buy the poster afterwards. So yes, Tom Cruise rightfully go hang out with the Queen. I mean, look, it's 70 years that's getting way more important than the Top Gun Maverick party. I can even though that was sort of like the big sort of big premiere that they clearly were very excited about. That little known actors Tom Cruise just just fine
