Black Friday's Threat to Cybersecurity
Craig Williams, Senior Technical Leader & Global Outreach Manager at Cisco, joins Cheddar to discuss some of the devices that might be most vulnerable to cybersecurity attacks this holiday season. Based on Cisco's experience, some of your smart home devices can be hacked within hours and, in some cases, minutes. Cisco says connected Barbies, baby monitors, and smart TVs are just a few of the products that can be hacked to spy on users. With connected devices estimated to reach 20.8 billion by 2020, poorly secured smart devices and toys are criminals' opportunity to "make bank." Williams says that unfortunately there is no secure operating system out there. The bar is very low for security within IoT devices. The best thing you can do is to find a manufacturer that will continue to make patches to its system. He also urges consumers to push harder on these manufacturers in order to ensure safe products.
