Food deserts and food insecurity were already issues prior to the onset of the pandemic, but COVID-19 further exposed the lack of access to adequate nutrition in many parts of the U.S., making an already dire situation worse. In light of this, the Biden administration has committed to providing $4 billion to strengthen the nation’s critical food supply chain infrastructure. Matt Wadiak, founder and former COO of Blue Apron and current CEO of Cooks Venture, told Cheddar that the proposal "is a good start" but more solutions have to be found when the people responsible for growing our food can’t even afford to eat it themselves. He also discussed what America can do to bring more quality foods to more people, including a shift towards regenerative agriculture.
