Calif. Gov. Newsom Appoints LaPhonza Butler to Senate

California, Governor Gavin Newsom has selected a replacement for Dianne Feinstein's Senate seat. The governor will appoint Leona Butler to succeed Feinstein Butler has been president of Emily's List. Now, that's an organization that elects pro choice female politicians to office or at least helps them do that news. Some previously announced he would choose a black woman to replace Feinstein if she left office before the end of her term. He also said he would not choose any of the three candidates currently campaigning for the Senate in 2024. Butler is expected to be sworn into office on Wednesday.
