Pop-up experience Candytopia is back in New York City after a three year hiatus, and boasts new features like bigger spaces, new experiences, and of course, thousands of pounds of candy. Cheddar’s Ken Buffa took a tour of the revamped pop-up to make sure the candy is even sweeter this time around.

Candytopia Returns to NYC

Welcome back to cheddar news wrap. Can you think of a place where you can have loads of fun at any age, create memories and stuff your face with delicious candy. If you're drawing a blank, the place to go is Candy Topia the pop up experiences back in new york city after a three year hiatus and it's better than ever. I took a tour of the revamped pop up just to make sure that candy is sweeter this time around, take a look from the windows glimmering above the streets to the walls inside, covered in treats. Candy Topia in herald square is the sweetest ticket in N. Y. C. Welcome to Candy Topia. The best time ever. I had more fun than my kids. I felt like a kid again. This pop up candy shop runs on sugar colors and fun. This is our largest space ever to date in our 18 show tour across the country. So what you're gonna get? Well, there's 27,000 square feet. There are 17 different experiences and we're talking hundreds of thousands of pounds of candy. It's delicious. So this is our art gallery. A lot of work has gone into this room, more art, More time has gone into this room in art design than any other room in our space. Uh, this is where we also like to highlight the locals, the famous locals that, that you know that people would recognize such as none other than biggie from jelly bean art to taffy statues. Candy is forged into designs you've likely never seen all while social media molds, how each guest spends their sweet time. It's no longer an instagram mobile experience. It's moving towards a Tiktok experience, right instagram is still there, it's still big, but Tiktok is the powerhouse at the moment. So we're but what we're doing in houses designing experiences that not only capture a moment, which is what a picture captures, but a video captures the experience. And so we're creating experiences within our space that require you to actually take a Tiktok in those experiences stretch across the country with guests able to get a taste for themselves in several areas like Minneapolis, Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Philly new york city was our second location after we opened our first one in Los Angeles and we bro, we welcomed, believe it not mistaken over 220,000 guests in a five month run. So what kind of sugary surprises will you find around every corner? I asked to take a tour. All right, George what room I in now? So right now you're in my favorite room, we play in this room. We have the seven ft wide beach balls that the kids just get a kick out of as they push with each other and their siblings and their friends and all of the kids in the space. It's quite a good time. They also like to pick it up just the way you had it, it just gives that illusion that you're falling through the sky as you can see on the wall. We also have some candy painted on it And our loving unicorn right there. Who's quote unquote pooping some clouds right there. You know, a little fun and whimsy. Alright, where are we now? We are. And we play. Yeah. I think when we play my favorite room actually we play I love this room. So it's just like a psychedelic type wormhole. The whole idea here is that you're getting sucked into these wormholes on the side. And here we have another one of our sugar rush cameras that are mounted on the ceiling to give you that vantage point. So they approached the lollipop. They scan their code and the camera's gonna they take a picture like we're just falling into the abyss while the abyss may seem like the perfect place for an escape from the last two years. Covid still lives in the real world and staff here says they have not forgotten. We take our steps to make sure that our artwork is sanitized. That our marshmallow pit is sanitized anything that has a lot of interaction from guest to guest. We make sure that we're just staying on top of it so that people feel comfortable and at ease And they mean everyone these rooms are not only designed for families but events of all flavors. All right, So this room is dark for a reason. That's right. This is our Sugar high theater room. So here is a very chill, relaxing calming environment. You're kind of just surrounded by all these projectors that are projecting these images of candy being made Now. Although Candy in more ways than you can dream of is the big draw. George says some of the sweetest moments don't come wrapped or on a stick. This was the first time she saw her son light up something really small. Right? It's only an hour of their day in the week but it brighten their day so much. And they're gonna be talking about this for the rest of the week. When they go back to school. The kids are gonna be like I went to Candy Topia. The parents are gonna have confetti falling off their hair for days, right and off their clothes and they're gonna see that confetti for the rest of the week and remember wow, I had a great time and while zip lines and donut cameras remind guests to smile some experiences just need folks to dive in George. Are we in heaven as close as it gets? Where are we? This is the grand finale. The highlight, the room that everyone talks about with candy topia, the marshmallow room so many so many. We are laying on a quarter of a million marshmallows. So how long will candy topia be around? Well George tells me they'll be here until February 2023. Well, you'll find fun. Candy and of course confetti, it's that nostalgia factor. Right? You get to come to Canada Topia and you get to forget that you're an adult. People can just disconnect for an hour or two from life and have fun. And so that's where that idea came from initially. Just how do we bring some happiness and joy to people around the still drive to make a snow angel here, marshmallow. It was a lot of fun.
