Hi, everybody. Welcome back to trending. Our next guest star in the outrageous comedy sequel, Buddy Game. Spring awakening. The movie's lead actor Josh Duel also directed and produced the film he directed and produced the first Buddy Games movie released in 2019 to the film told the story of a group of life long friends who for a competition of absurd, physical and mental challenges with the chance to win $150,000. Pretty good guys there. Now in the sequel, the gang reunites once again to pay tribute to a late friend at the beach resort where they first came up with the idea for the Buddy Games. But they soon find out that a new generation of spring breakers are running their own version of the buddy games and also overrun the town and bar where they used to hang out. Now, our West Coast correspondent Asia Celso caught up with me and some of the movie's other stars to talk about the inspiration behind the film. Take a look. This is based on a real life competition with your friends. I love that. Why do you think it is that people love the concept of the buddy games. Well, I think that people do a version of this all over the world, whether it's backyard games, whether it's beach volleyball, whether it's, you know, Buddy Olympics, whatever it is, people do some version of this. I can't tell you how many times I've told people about the movie or about the upcoming show on CBS. And like we do that, we do that same thing, but just a little bit different. And so I think there's something very relatable about that. I think that we all have a competitive spirit. Uh We all want to keep that, that youthfulness, that kid alive inside of us. And, and that's really what this movie is about. It's about friendship, it's about brotherhood, it's about, it's about, you know, keeping that kid alive. And I think that that is something that is, is relatable anywhere, Dan, it looks like you guys really did keep the kid alive because the outtakes are hilarious. So I'm wondering, what is it like to be on the buddy game set? And also how is it different when Josh is directing? We have a lot of fun. We have a great time uh shooting these, both these films. We've had a great time. The stuff that's going on off camera is oftentimes as ridiculous and as insane as the stuff that's on camera. And as far as Josh is a director, it's been a dream, you know, I mean, it's it's such a great experience because he knows what it's like to stand where we're standing. And so the, the notes are always coming from a place of like an actor's point of view and he's open minded to anything too. So if we have an idea and we wanna run it by you, some, some directors don't like that. Oh, yeah. But you, you're like, if you got something better bring it in nothing you see on on screen was actually in the script. It's, it's all. Trust me. My job as the director on this movie is just to keep Nick Swartz in between the the rails. Did we also see an axle cameo? Josh? We did, we did, what was it like to be in a scene with your son? Uh He, you know, it was fun for him. He loves to, he, he, he's, he's very curious about all of it. I'm not, I'm definitely, I'm not trying to make my kid a child actor. Believe me, it's not something that uh he, he, if he wants to do that down the road, he Ken, thank you. He, he, he's, you know, he just, it was fun for him. He was up there with us for uh a few weeks and I thought that it'd be fun for him to come out and, you know, have a little spot. The buddy games kind of brings everyone back to their inner child and your teens again is there something you do in real life that kind of breaks you from the seriousness of day to day and makes you feel like a kid again. You know, I kind of live this way in my real life too. I, I'm from, I, I'm one of six kids, five boys. So I go home and it's buddy games. It's like all my brothers are competing. The love is all there and then all my friends, I just, I, I always act like a kid at all times. Me and Dan will play each other in pinball like we want to kill each other. I mean, we just, I mean, we love, we love to compete. It's what we're all about and I love these guys and that's what this movie. Why, why it's so great. Echo what Kevin said, I mean, in my mind, I'm still, uh the 21 year old kid. Uh, and then I look in the mirror and I realize quickly that that's not the case, but it's, uh, it is important to me because I feel like, you know, my dad always says, don't let the old man in, in the door. Uh, because once you do that, you start behaving, you know, a little slower. And, but for me, it's like I want to have as much fun as I can for as long as I can. And, and, and you know what we do every year with my, my buddies is you know, third weekend of August we all get together. They all look forward to it like it's Christmas and it's just a weekend where you can, you can leave the family behind, you can leave your, your, your job behind and everything else and just, and just have fun with your boys. And that I think is an important thing for me to, to re, to recapture that sense of, I've got a 12 year old boy. I get in it with him. You know, I go swim with him. We go out and do something. He's a great improviser. So we'll sit on the couch doing stupid jokes to one another pretending to be old men. And uh, that's probably the quickest and easiest get he, he's pretending, speaking of which don't let the old man in the door. My dad, my dad used to say, don't let the old man in the door too, but it's because my mom's father lived in a shed in our backyard. Morgan Wallen continues to dominate the billboard charts on Tuesday. The country music stars latest LP one thing at a time became the number one album in the US for its 12 th straight week and it comes after it debuted on top of the billboard 200 back in March one thing at a time is now the first country album in 30 years to spend 12 weeks, the top of the charts. Meanwhile, while in single last night became the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for the eighth time since its release throughout Billboard's most recent tracking week, the song was streamed 33 million times but the Billboard Hot 100 could soon see a bit of a shake up. And that's because the airwaves will soon be graced by two new songs from Madonna and both will be collaborations with big name artists. The queen of pop will be featured on a new track from the weekend. The song titled Popular will be the first single from the soundtrack for the upcoming HBO series, The Idol. It's set to release on Friday. Meanwhile, Madonna will be joined by Sam Smith on another song titled Vulgar. The two artists confirmed the release of the upcoming collaboration on Wednesday. The track is set to release on June nine.
