Gospel music legend Cece Winans dropped by 'Wake Up With Cheddar' to talk about her new live album, her upcoming tour and her friendship with Whitney Houston. Watch!

Welcome back to wake up with cheddar yesterday. I had the pleasure of sitting down with gospel music icon. C. C. Wants to talk about everything from her new album to her upcoming tour, and even her friendship with Whitney Houston. Take a look See, see we are so excited to have you on wake up with cheddar this morning. But you know what, I think your fans are even more excited that they are finally getting a live album from you. I mean what? We had to wait like 40 years for it, it seems like a no brainer. What took so long for you to do a live album? I don't know, you know, you have to slow down enough to do one, you know, you're you're on the road and you never think about recording the stuff, you know, especially back then. Um but but finally we're here, I I really don't have a reason why why I never did it. Um I love the studio because you get a chance to do it over and over and over again and live. It's just like, hey, here we go. So uh I'm glad I did it though, and it is worth the wait. I've already been listening to some of the cuts and I'm like banging. It takes me back and it also pulls me ahead or so much. I know you have surprised fans with your first tour in over a decade as well, so what made you decide to go hit the road? Ah well, you know, we we sat down and talked is something I really want, you know, I like staying home. I have a grand baby and being at home. It's just the best. We have a church here in Nashville like church here in Nashville Tennessee. So to get on the road was really a struggle. You know, I had to pray about it and I just feel like this experience will be extra special. These songs um come to give hope and to them to give and come to give encouragement and and our country has been through a lot a lot and I think people needed to come together. We all can get out now, still being cautious, still being careful, but to be able to come together and worship. I believe it's something that people need and I think we're gonna get that because you said that your tour is gonna be a mix of church and community. So does that mean we're gonna get a mix of the old as well as the new, what can we expect? Yeah, yeah, we'll get a lot of the new one. But yeah, we got, we gotta mix some of that old stuff, you know, like you said, I've been doing it over 40 years now and I have people who have been with me since the beginning and so we love to try to mix some of the old with the new. Yeah. Well speaking of some of those timeless things that you've created old and new. You know what count on me from the film, waiting to exhale with the incredible Whitney Houston has been timeless since the day it came out. And I know she's on a lot of top of minds of fans right now because of her birthday was just last week. I can't believe it. What would you say? You remember the most about the friendship that you had with Whitney? Um the laughter. We used to laugh a lot. Whitney was a cut up and uh we had a good time and you know, the time she would come and visit me and go to church with me. Those are just precious memories. But we had a great friendship of of love and a lot of laughter. Yeah. And you know, I see you and your brother be be laughing all the time and loving each other because you guys have worked together on several duets and I want to ask you about other duets now, is there someone that you would love to collaborate with, that you haven't had a chance to work with yet. Um The first person to come to my mind is Stevie wonder. I love Stevie wonder and we worked together on live things together, but we've never recorded anything and that would be awesome to do before you go as a titan in the music scene for decades. I know I'm sorry, I don't want to aid you, but for decades you've been doing your thing. That's a blessing? That's a blessing to stay relevant for so long. So how does the rest of the decade look for you? And you know, what does the future look like for CC wine? Is, is retirement even a word in your vocabulary? You know? I thought it would be, I thought it would be um I started doing this B B and I, but, but I was probably about 16, 17 years old and, and I'm 57 now, I'll be 58 in a few months. Um so, so being on the road and sing, I'll never retire from singing as long as I'm able to sing out sing, but I sing a lot at my church, I sing a lot on our worship team and that is, that is a joyful thing for me, so I'll never stop singing. As long as I can breathe, the song I sing says I will sing of the goodness of the Lord, you know? But as far as touring and recording, I really didn't think I would be doing it, you know, at this point. Um so I can't say that I will because you know, God has other plans, clearly I'm going on tour. Right, so he has other plans. So as long as it's God's will for me to do this, that I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Um so we'll see, but, but right now, it doesn't look like retirement? Amen, I received that and I can't wait to see you on tour. Much success and blessings to you. And I'm sure we all can say we're thankful she's not retiring also.
