Infant mortality rates in the US increased by 3% last year. It's the largest increase in nearly two decades. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report published yesterday, white and native American infants born 37 weeks or earlier had significant death rate increases. The report also revealed there were 5.6 infant deaths for every 1000 live births. That was in 2022. That's up from 5.4 deaths for every 1000 births from the year before. The two leading causes of infant deaths were maternal complications and bacterial meningitis.
