There are many ways to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander month and one of those ways is through art. One director and photographer, Adrian Per, produced his own passion project called 'We Are Golden' to celebrate the month and joined Cheddar News to talk more about it.

well there are many ways to celebrate a ap I month and one of those ways is through art. One director and photographer created his own passion project called We are golden to celebrate all a ap i ethnicity age, gender and sexual orientation. So joining us now to talk more about the we are golden project is the director himself. Adrian per thank you so much for being with us. Adrian. Hey, thank you for having me. So you've got to start off by telling us one, help people out what does a ap I stand for and what does this project mean to you in that community? So api month is asian american pacific islander heritage month. And basically, you know, this project is about showcasing the stories that I feel like a lot of the media was missing out on, you know, especially after Covid there was a lot of negative press around us and with that came a lot of the violence and there's so much more to us that I feel like that should have been normalized along with that. And I wanted to highlight the positive stories like the cool things we're doing, whether it be in the art field and the regular workforce and some of the more positive things that we do. And I just got tired of that narrative narrative. So I took it upon myself and and made some positive art around it. So what more do you think needs to be done to help some more support this community? I think more so just not showing that we're just some virus carriers that a lot of what the the media has normally took us as and people took that and ran with it in their own way and they almost forgot a lot of the cool culture and food and and a lot of the great things we've brought to this country and it's not just what we've been painted out to be as well. We love the art that you are now painting around the world and showing people all over. So thank you so much for your contributions and thank you so much for your time today.
