Former "Bachelorette" and "Dancing With the Stars" champion Hannah Brown joined Cheddar News with veterinarian Dr. Callie Harris to discuss the importance of your pet's milestones. Brown also talked about her new puppy, Wally, and her partnership with Purina One. "Wally is an Australian labradoodle and is about eight months old now, so definitely still in his puppy phase," she said. "But every day he's learning and growing and it's new and exciting but also can be a little bit stressful."

Celebrating Pet Milestones With Former 'Bachelorette' Hannah Brown

what's up, So cute! Welcome back everyone to between bells owning a puppy or a kitten while pretty adorable comes with a lot of challenges, just like human babies, baby animals also have key milestones in their lives that every pet parent should be aware of. So helping us break down these moments in our pets lives is bachelorette alum and winner of Dancing with the Stars, Hannah brown, Plus we're also joined by veterinarian. Dr Callie Harris, take a look. Such a pleasure to have both of you guys here with me and I want to start with you. You have a brand new puppy named Wally. He's so incredibly cute. I have a dog also, I know it's a really chaotic time at the beginning for any pet owner. So how has it been going so far with Wally? It's uh it's been an adventure but definitely worth while. Wally is an Australian labradoodle and is about eight months old now, so definitely still in his puppy face, but every day he's learning and growing and it's new and exciting but also can be a little bit stressful. So I really wanted to plan before he got to me. So making sure that I knew what his nutritional plan was going to be was one of my top priorities. And talking to experts like Dr Callie made me realize that the pre napro planned puppy was the best choice for him because it's jam packed with essential nutrients that he needs right now as he continues to develop. Okay, so dr Callie as Hannah mentioned, there's a lot of planning a lot of fun but there's a lot of sort of ups and downs you have to go through as a pet parent. What should these new pet parents know about the first year of their puppy or even their kittens? First year of their life? Yeah. What you've experienced what Hannah is experiencing right now is that it can be very busy but physically and mentally but so exciting. And those key growth behavior and nutritional milestones. There's something to not only plan or expect but also to celebrate. This is the time to set that foundation to a healthy future. Okay, so Hannah, what's been the most helpful thing you've learned with your new puppy? Wally so far? And also why did you want to partner with Purina here? Well speaking with experts like Dr Callie and all those at Purina have been so helpful for me just with understanding those important puppy and kitten milestones. Um and that's not only just with the nutrition. I know prion has got me covered with that, but also with behavioral milestones. Socialization has proven to be something so important for walleyes, growth and development. Um so that we have people come into our home when he encountered encounters other animals on walks or even meets little babies? He's not overwhelmed or anxious but can really just enjoy and play and be a delight for everyone that he meets. But that really does take some planning and training? Absolutely want to set them up for success as well. Dr Callie, what training tips do you have for new pet parents that are out there. Yeah, so my top training tip and Hannah's already doing such a great job with this is early socialization. She already mentioned it but making sure that that new pet is comfortable around other pets around other people and especially when they come to see me in the vet clinic is going to be really important. Now a tip that I like to provide is using training treats. So like Purina puppy chow training treats, they are fantastic as far as reinforcing that positive behavior. Absolutely! So Hannah switching gears, we got to talk about the Bachelorette here, are you watching this new season? And could you imagine doing this journey with another Bachelorette like we're seeing right now um I am actually watching this season, I am so proud of Gabby and Rachel and I really couldn't imagine doing it with someone else but I do think it's great that they have each other to lean on and excited for their opportunity to find love to unfold and having experiences before, could you give Rachel and Gabby any advice? What would you give them? I think honestly just having each other to lean on is something that I would really utilize um but just trusting your gut and your heart and really just leaning into the experience but also remembering that you hold the keys that you really know more than then you sometimes give yourself credit for and to really just um enjoy the experience and stay true to yourself. And we mentioned your new dog, Wally, you also have a boyfriend adam. How is he dealing with Wally in this new life? Also with him. He is a great pet parent. I'm so glad that I don't have to do it alone. Um because well he can be the most fun handful, but definitely a handful. So he's a great pet dad and he's great for getting all the Wally leaves. A lot of activities. So having adam to take him on the long runs is really great in the morning so that he gets all his stimulation that he needs.
