Welcome back to between balls everyone. One show is changing the late night landscape as we know it hell of a week with charlemagne. The God is in its second season and this time it's giving fans an unlikely pairing of comedians, outspoken celebs and thought leaders across the political spectrum to debate the current events in politics and culture. Take a look. Is the news, terrorizing your timeline is the Supreme Court causing your anxiety to rise higher than gas prices. Don't worry, we got you. I mean, not really, there's nothing we can really do. But you can watch all of a week on Comedy Central. Comedy Central's hell of a week with me, charlemagne the Gun, I got the best and brightest comedians, political figures and cultural influences, joining me to break down the biggest stories and earlier, our own Shannon Lanier sat down with charlotte and the God to talk all about season two of the hit show, Take a look, charlotte man. We definitely have to get to the new season of your hit show, Hell of a week with charlemagne, tha God, but first we gotta talk about the bombshell news that Angela Yee, just released this week that she is leaving the breakfast club. So when the words of Birdman are y'all finished, are y'all done, What's going on? We were definitely not finished. All done. You know, um Angela, you man with me, her and DJ envy have built with the breakfast club, you know, it's, it's historic, can't be duplicated. You know, we're, we're all in the Radio Hall of Fame, you know, jay Z has a song called Already Home and you know, that's that's how I feel when it comes to us in radio. Um so you know, to see her evolve and and and and we, we really calling it a spin off show because she's gonna be coming on right after uh she's gonna be coming on in the mid days from 10 AM to two PM. She's already syndicated and you know, 30 plus markets after the announcement yesterday, it's probably doubled since then. So it's like to see her evolved, you know, to go off and you know, do her own show to me that just fits the whole profile of who she is. You know, she's she's an entrepreneur, she's a business woman. You know, if you know anything about Angele, she's got, you know, a coffee shop, she's got a juice bar, she's got a lot of different things going on. So for her to have her own show way up with Anjali that comes on right after the breakfast club. I mean, it just makes more sense. It makes a lot of sense to me and as a radio person, I love it because I feel like, you know, radio has taken a lot of personality out of radio, that's why over the last 15 years you've seen the rise of the podcast because when this new rating system called PPM came out, Radio kind of like took the focus off the personality and tried to be more music intensive, but you had these screaming services that came along. So when the music was on demand and they script the personalities from radio. So then podcast came up. So whenever there's, you know, an opportunity and radio for more personality to be on which Angela is, I'm all for that and there's more jobs because she's, she got to hire a whole new staff. So you know, it's more jobs for people. So I'm happy for all right, well, you know, you're right, the chemistry between you all is really iconic. It can't be duplicated. So you guys gonna be looking for a new host maybe to fill that and what will you be looking for? Yeah, I mean, eventually, you know, I mean, I'm not, I'm not in no rush to do that. You know, like, you know, they always say, you know, it's hard to feel a great person's shoes and you know, we was the holy trinity radio from their 13 years. So I wouldn't want to do that to Angela ease legacy and I wouldn't want to do that to the next person coming behind her. So, you know, in my mind, I look at it like when the view loses, you know, a host, right, like they rotate guest host for a while and then, you know, if they find chemistry with somebody then that person eventually, So that process, man, that's not nothing I'm looking to do anytime soon, you know, that might you might not see a new host for a year or a year or two, who knows? Well, we're happy with your work, especially a hell of a week, fans are already loving the second season. So what are you looking forward to with the second season? And what do you think you wanted to make sure was different or hone in on or make the same for season two? Um for me, it was about more community to this this season, meaning that like we we we changed the platform to have a panel, so it's not just me talking about, you know, one topic, it's me and community and conversation with different people and I just like the different points of view that are shared, I like the debates that have started, I like the exchanging of ideas, I like to push back the challenges, the challenges of ideas. So, I mean, that's that's really what's changed, it's just more community based, because I feel like that's my strength, like, you know, we were just talking about the breakfast club is three of us, you know, my pa the brilliant idiots is me and Andrew schulZ, so I think I'm always better in in conversation with people, so that's that's what's different and so far, you've had amazing guests on this show from anybody, like Don Lemon keenan Thompson Liz smith. So, you know, on that show, I know you've done a lot of shows on that show, who has been your favorite guest so far and then overall, who has been your most memorable guests over your career? That's a crazy question, right, it's only been two episodes a hell of a week. So you know the third, well this is our second season, so the third episode is the Night man, I mean for me, of course from the first season it would be Vice President Kamala Harris, you know, I always enjoy talking the VP on and off here and get into it, who's really running the country, even when we get into it, because that's some of the off air conversations to, you know, like even when we get into it, so I think this season, I I really did enjoy Liz smith and I really did enjoy S E Cupp when we had them on, I thought they were really good. So overall in your career, is there one that just stood out there, maybe more memorable, this Kanye or Kamala or even Birdman, you know what, I really don't have one. And the reason why is because especially over the past couple of days when you know when we when when Angela sent out that plan communication in the form of a tweet, like we, you know, we knew that tweet was going out, like we, you know, we sat around and crafted that tweet, so when it went out when everybody thought Breakfast Club was over, they've been posting all of these different moments and I literally said this morning, you know, 90% of this stuff, I forgot Like 90, like 90% of these conversations, these things I'm watching online over the last 13 years, I forgot. So it's a lot of different ones man, I can't really say which one is the best. Like I really can't. That's fair. Let's talk about hell of a week and who you want to get on the show next. Is there somebody you're just dying to have on? My answer for that question is always judy blume. Like I love, I love judy Blume, I love her. You know when I was young Yeah, my mom used to, my mom is an english teacher and you know, she always used to tell me to read things that don't pertain to me and we had the book IT program. So you know, you read four books, you get a free pizza. So for me, I was always reading books and I would be in the library looking for things that didn't pertain to me. That's exactly what my mom said to me verbatim, read things that don't pertain to you and your experiences. So I was getting those judy Blume books because I didn't have nothing in common with those white girls that she was talking about. But I enjoyed the stories like I enjoyed all of this, I enjoyed the social commentary that she displayed through her art. So I always have wanted to talk to judy blume. That's the interview that I would love to have one day. Okay, we're going to send this out to her today. Alright, okay, now I know your show is executive produced by steven Colbert, what's it like working with him? Because he just seems so smart and funny. He is, that's exactly what he is. He's smart, he's funny. Um and and you know when you have been winning, as long as steven has been winning because you know, Stephen has had success twice with late night talk shows, you know, he had the Colbert report on Comedy Central and you know, of course now the Late show with Stephen Colbert and it's just like there's a science to this talk show thing, there's a, there's like a mathematical equation that two plus two will equal this. And you know, you can try to get around that formula all you want, but you know, you can't, and for somebody like him who has had the success that he's had, he can literally give me the formula verbatim and and if I follow that formula, you know, I think I will, I will continue to have great success an even greater success because you know those guys like that, that's the bar for me, you know, when I look at those guys, I want to do what I want to have, the type of the runs that they've had in this Tv game like this isn't something that I'm looking at it like a side hobby that I do outside of everything I do in the audio world. Like I want to be a hit on, on, on television. So well there's no doubt about your approach right now. You're on track to do just that, but your approaches are a little bit different. You know, you've been known to be controversial and that's what people love about you. Not afraid to ask those tough questions and controversial questions to people who try to give you just staple answers, but they also clapped back at you and some people try to say things that could be damaging to you. So has anyone ever really hurt your feelings or done anything to offend you when they're clapping back if you will know. And and the reason I say that is because like, um you know, I'm not, I'm not afraid of honest conversation and I know my intention is always, I'm not going to say anything to somebody or or or or ask somebody anything that I wouldn't want returned, you know, to me. So for me, no, I think whenever it's like honest conversation, whether it's aggressive, whether it's, you know, considered something that could be insulting, I don't, I don't care like you can go back and watch interviews, I've had people call me a B A N in the studio and the P word and all types of stuff cursed me out, storm out that don't affect me in any way, shape or form. And also to I'm not I've never tried to be controversial some questions I asked, I don't even think it's considered controversial. Like you talked about Kamala earlier, Vice President Harris, I'm sorry, we talked about Vice President Harris earlier and you know, when I asked that question, that was me as a tax paying citizen, really wanting to know who is in charge of this country, who's really, you know, calling the shots and and everybody's like, oh that's such a controversial question and I'm like, is it because now that's all everybody, but that's all everybody's been saying now. Now that's like that question seems controversial back then, but now people are asking that question all the time. Like is joe Mansion in Charge, does joe Manchin have so much power? Is he the real president? So yeah, I think, I think, I think I just, I just always asked the question that people are afraid to ask at the time, so I'm just a little bit early, but eventually it becomes the norm, the normal question for everyone later on and thank you again to charlemagne the God host of hell of a week with charlemagne, God, you can watch the show Thursdays 11:30 p.m. Eastern time on Comedy Central, great interview, Shannon Lanier
