Amazon prime day or should we say days is happening tomorrow and Wednesday and people are expecting big discounts from the online retailer. So, what do you need to know? Well, we're here to help you. Let's bring in our news, senior reporter Michelle Castillo, Michelle, a lot of people counting down. What do we know so far about this year's prime day? Well, Amazon's annual sales day is coming up soon, but the retailer has already started early deals to entice shoppers. So, among the notable items including savings on apple products, which usually happens on Black Friday. But this year it includes a $20 off 1/9 generation ipad. You can also get $20 off. Of course, Pro le Air fryer and $500 off an Epson Home Cinema four K projector. So those are some of the deals I saw off the top. If you want to know a little bit about Amazon Prime Day, it actually started in July 2015 and it was really a way to celebrate Amazon's 20th birthday. It's quickly become one of the biggest shopping days in the year. So last year prime members bought more than 300 million items or about 100,000 items per minute. And according to Amazon, it saved them more than $1.7 billion. It generated over all $3 billion in sales for small businesses that sell through the website. But for Amazon, it's all about how much big business this means for them. Adobe estimated that the 2022 prime days brought in 12 billion dollars for the company and the marketing blitz is well under way, we know Prime Day has caused other retailers to offer huge deals as well. Michelle, what other notable sales have you noticed at other places? Well, everyone is trying to cash in on Christmas in July. So target is getting a head start on the sales with its deals day which started on Sunday and it goes through July 15th. Other notable retailers having sales include Macy's, which will have up to 70% off through their Black Friday in July deals. And if you're looking for appliances best buy is offering up to 40% off through July 12th on select items and not to be outdone this week is also Walmart Plus week, which includes getting a Walmart plus membership for half off. And if you're already a Walmart plus member, you can start cashing in on those deals today. So you mentioned Christmas in July, why is this happening in July? Michelle, Hannah. The simple answer is if you ask Amazon that that the company actually started on July 5th in 1994. And remember back in the day, it was only an online bookstore, but there are other benefits to having sales in July. So the slowest months for online retail are typically January and February. But the second biggest dip is actually June and July. July sales also give retailers a chance to clear out warehouse space for the upcoming Thanksgiving Christmas season. And one more added benefit companies can test out sticks when it comes to shipping and work out. All those kinks before all the end of your purchases start rolling in Michelle Castillo.
