Cheddar Weather: Early September Heat Wave

As we all know, much of the country will be experiencing steamy temperatures the next few days. And now we've got an official word that this is the hottest summer on record. The Un World Meteorological Organization and the European Climate Service, Copernicus announced today that June to August 2023 is the hottest we've experienced since record keeping began. That was in 1940. The temperature during that time was 1.2 degrees above average for that period. In a statement, the Un Secretary General Antonio Guterres pointed to the climate crisis saying we can still avoid the worst of climate chaos. We don't have a moment to lose and the heat is on today in the east and Midwest, but some thunderstorms are making their way across the east coast and give some relief to the heat for the weekend. Here's your forecast. Hello, everyone. I'm meteorologist James Gloria with your latest chet coast to coast forecast showers and storms here moving a little further south as we head down towards Louisiana and Alabama as well. So some rocking and rolling there today, that's your greatest threat for some of these stronger thunderstorms, satellite and radar shot showing us that things are quiet along the east coast, showers and storms out to the west and there is that line that could produce some severe weather a little further. We got some flooding issues approaching Illinois and towards Lake Michigan. But for the most part, things are pretty quiet down in the gulf. Some scattered showers and storms pretty typical for this time of year. And then as we head out to the inner mountain west in the plains, northern high plains look fantastic here. Nothing to worry about. West coast also looks great. It's been really, really quiet out west. All right. As we move towards tomorrow, the heat continues in the east. We may get some showers and storm to fire up later tomorrow afternoon and some unsettled weather into early Friday morning that should help to break the heat wave in the metro New York and perhaps Philly area and then certainly cooler temperatures for the upcoming weekend and unsettled here for your Saturday, Pennsylvania looks a little better than Jersey and it looks like we got some rain in Virginia, West Virginia looks a little bit better as well. But out to the west, it is in fact very, very quiet. All right, the heat is here still Texas and along the east coast here all the way from New York. Philly has got the same high tomorrow as does Orlando. So that's how far north that heat is really moved into Chicago land only 69 degrees and further out to the West San Fran. At about 67 we move in towards your Friday and there it is a heat wave breaks in New York at least in the Big Apple with a high of only 87. And that's a look at your triple C forecast.
