It’s official: the International Olympic Committee has recognized cheerleading as an Olympic sport. Jeff Webb, president of the International Cheer Union and founder of Varsity Spirit, joined Cheddar’s Closing Bell to talk about the journey to establish an international organizing body for cheerleading and gain Olympic recognition. Webb also discussed the global surge in interest surrounding the sport and what other countries might be the biggest competition for the United States. Cheerleading could possibly be featured as early as the Paris games in 2024, but Webb said a 2028 Los Angeles debut is more likely.
