Comic-Con Returns to San Diego in Full Force

after two years of virtual shows, SAn Diego. Comic Con makes a triumphant return as an in person event. The four day extravaganza features huge names and brings the latest from top films, tv shows and studios including marvel and dc and panels include Warner Brothers theatrical marvel studios, a behind the scenes, look at Apple Tv plus hit series, one of my favorite Severance and also and that's not all Asia's comic Con goers wait for more details on amazon Prime video is the Lord of the Rings, the Rings of Power and Disney, she hulk attorney at law. They did get a new trailer that is breathing some serious fire into the convention. Look at this, do you think the room will ever accept me as their queen? A woman would not inherit the iron throne because that is the order of things. When I'm queen, I will create a new order. Your family has dragons Yeah, Power Man should never have trifled with Oh yeah. Ahead of the big appearance at Comic Con H B L. Releasing a new trailer for its game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, which tells the story of the House of Targ Gary in its premiering on august the 21st and let's stick with dragons. The long awaited dungeons and Dragons honor among thieves was unveiled at SAn Diego Comic Con baker, we got a first look at the main cast which consists of chris pine Michelle Rodriguez, reggae, Gene page and Hugh Grant dungeons and Dragons honor among thieves is scheduled to open in theaters, March 3rd, 2023. So still a ways to go baker. But I love this look almost meshes like trading cards with also the glam, but like the slow mo cam that we've seen on red carpets. Can we talk about reggae john page and this look the hair, it's like a weird to pee, but I'm very excited. Yes, I am too. I've never been a dungeons and Dragons person until this moment. I saw chris pine and reggae john page basically in this and of course we're gonna talk a little bit more about this and how paramount pictures has all of this. But look, this is really sort of interesting because there's so many big revelations that are coming at Comic Con, you have big celebrities that are gonna be there, The rock is gonna be there, keanu Reeves is gonna be there as well Asia. So let's dive into more about what was dropped so far and what we can expect from SAN Diego. Comic Con, our friend Erik Davis, managing editor of Fandango joining us in studio eric good to see you as always so much packed into just one weekend in SAn Diego. So what are some of the big panels that you're keeping your eye on for this? Yeah, it's nice that it's back in person. I mean, I look at marvel studios which sort of is this saturday evening panel, that's the prime time spot, prime time. It's this is where marvel has always been and you know, this is a key moment for marvel studios. Yes, they're still doing very well at the box office, but a lot of fans are like, where is this new phase going? We're not building to another Avengers movies are, are we? There's a bunch of release dates, they have to announce for Blade for fantastic four, they just announced that they're putting R rated movies, Deadpool, Deadpool two and Logan onto Disney Plus on july 22nd, which leads me to believe, are they gonna have Ryan Reynolds there? Are they gonna make it? And that's a really big move for Disney to just put R rated films, the first R rated films on Disney Plus. And so that's happening now too. So that marvel Studios panel is not, has to kind of say this is what the future of marvel looks like and and they have to do a lot of work on there and I think they will okay, we just saw just a few moments ago, just that little snippet of dungeons and dragons, which was just sort of released by paramount, which is making a big play now at Comic Con as well, how big, how big do you think that's going to be in terms of a splash there. Yeah, I mean, well paramount has this top gun maverick, that's like the biggest movie of all time and so this is going to be their next big movie. I mean, it's based on a huge I. P dungeons and dragons millions of players around the world, you know. And so sometimes you know when they've made live action adaptations of those kinds of games, they've done well and sometimes they haven't done so well. So we'll have to see, it's got a great cast I think chris Pine is great, reggae john page that we just saw right there and so I think they have, they also have some work to do and that's why these studios bring these properties to Comic Con because this is where the fandom begins for these problems. What about Warner in particular given the fact that we just saw that release of that new game of Thrones prequel trailer, everybody's been waiting forever for the prequel series after Game of Thrones, how big of a splash is that going to be at that comic con de thing? Yeah, Warner's has a couple, they also have films and they have Tv and we have, you know, not just this Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon series, there's also this Lord of the Rings, the Rings of Power series, they're coming out like a couple of weeks apart. I keep confusing them fantasy projects but this is huge because Game of Thrones is like the biggest franchise ever for HBO and for HBO max and so you know, not just is this critical for HBO max but then also that Lord of the Ring series for amazon prime, you know, one of the most expensive tv series ever filmed, both of those are gonna be at Comic Con, both of those have to make a lot of noise here and get fans excited on the, on the tv side of things. Apple Tv plus, going to have taking fans into an inner world of severance which has been their huge hit show on that platform as well. Do you think it's gonna give a lot of people some answered questions based on the success of that show and how weird it sort of ended in the last season, I mean that last episode and if you haven't seen it, it's awesome, it was just fantastic and you want to see a season two, like immediately after it ends and I saw a little bit of the experience that they have there and it's basic, it's like the show, they walk you through, they do that little therapy session, you know, they ask you questions, they have that office set as well in the experience. And so yeah, I mean, you know, Severance just landed a bunch of Emmy nominations, this could be a big genre hit, similar like lost for Apple Tv. And so again, why there at Comic Con because they want to start building that fandom around this property. So that way they can see where can we play, where can we sell toys for it, where can we merchandise this aspect of it, after two years of the pandemic, not having really Comic Con in person. And now sort of the brands Disney having a lot of their revelations at D. 23 some of the other conventions as well, does Comic Con still have sort of, I guess the bite, I would say when it comes to sort of the big announcements and the big sort of surprises here, like it used to I think they do to an extent, you know, and you know, the luxury that Disney has is they have so much I. P. That they can spread it out into 17 conventions if they wanted to netflix has a bunch of conventions too. So you know, for their for their properties and I think really it's about making that noise and about making the fans feel special about keeping them engaged with what you have. And so, you know, I think Comic Con you have to be there if it's happening, you have to be there, you know, but how they spread the different pieces around what they show here, what they bring to D 23 I'm really curious about, but I think they have an embarrassment of riches, Disney and they can show you a ton of Comic Con, they can show you a ton of D 25 by the way, that's a good problem to have basically having an embarrassment of so many riches, any other things that you have your eye on that you want to sort of see revealed this weekend or you're you're looking forward to probably on the Dc film side. You know, Warner Brothers has the rock there for the first time Black Adam, which is a few hours before marvel studios. And you know, the rock is competitive, so he's gonna want to make a ton of noise at that panel and there's rumors that Henry cavill may be involved. They may introduce him as superman again. So look for D. C. To make a splash in that early saturday time frame. And how are they going to compete against marvel? How are they gonna break through that marvel? Especially given the fact that, you know, David's as the new ceo of Warner really wants to put a lot of emphasis on D. C. Especially for HBO max. Eric Davis.
