Jordan Schlansky, associate producer of 'Conan,' sat down and spoke with Cheddar News about Conan O'Brien's launch on Samsung TV Plus, touched on his favorite interviews with Conan and also teased the upcoming Max series, 'Conan Must Go.'

'Conan' Producer Jordan Schlansky on All Things Conan O'Brien

It's the greatest hits. You know, back when we were working on these shows, we put a lot of work into them. We would have liked to have thought that one day somebody else would put them on TV. Because typically it airs once or twice on TV. We like the fact that watching a show on TV is a bit of an event. Certainly, when we taped the shows, we had a live band, we had an audience. It felt special. I feel like Samsung has made these shows feel special. Again, they have assembled only the best portions of the show. So you don't have to worry. It's all curated for you and you could sit down on your couch and enjoy. Amazing. So you talk about, you know, when you guys were taping live, it being so special, right? The audience, the band. I want to talk a little bit about some of the celebrity interviews. You've been a part of, I mean, you've been a part of Conan o'brien, right? Since the beginning. Talk to me a little bit about some of your favorite celebrity interviews. Well, my favorites are always the people that I grew up with. It's like you get used to the A Listers very quickly. Then when like someone from your childhood, like John Ritter from Three's Company comes on the show, you find yourself getting like, very excited. So it's like those like um deep cut celebrities that really excited me. OK. Amazing. Um So for viewers who may not know, I mean, you've been a part of so many of the interviews, so many of the segments, what are some of your favorite Jordan Slansky segments? Well, typically the segments involve me being ambushed in my office unexpectedly with a camera crew. So it's, I feel like if I call the segment, my favorite, it's only encouraging the practice to continue. But certainly, um, they've done well for one reason that I don't quite comprehend. But yes, it's like when you work on a show like this, you have to be prepared, uh, to be featured on camera as well as behind camera. Absolutely. And you've done a great job whether it's sort of in character, whether you're like this on and off screen. Um, I wanna switch gears a little bit. Let's talk about, um, Conan o'brien must go. What can people expect, uh, you know, what, what will the differences sort of be between Conan o'brien must go and Conan o'brien TV. Well, um, Conan o'brien Must Go is a travel show format and we're also able to put a lot of time into it, which for us is the greatest resource. When we did the late night shows, we would do them on a nightly basis and we frankly love that energy. It kind of propelled us forward. This is a situation where um Conan travels the world and then we have a lot of time to work with it. Both the preproduction and the post production to really present something that we feel shows Conan at his best. And I've seen a lot of the footage already and it's absolutely fantastic and we can't wait for that to be released. Amazing. So, Conan o'brien must go, comes after, you know, Conan's previous travel show. Um What is it do you think? And you're obviously someone who knows him quite personally and quite well. What is it about his personality and his sense of humor that makes him so good sort of in the field right outside of the studio? Well, I think that uh he's a typical fish out of water. He's always happy to laugh at himself and be self deprecating. Um uh the man is not perfect and he embraces his flaws. I'll also confirm that the man has quite a few flaws. Um Nevertheless, nevertheless, um he's always happy to laugh at himself and that type of humor, I think transcends different cultures around the world. And it's always fascinating to go to countries that have such different cultures and see that that type of comedy is actually universal and actually resonates with people that may not be familiar with him or have never seen his show. Um, maybe never even saw a late night talk show yet. Still appreciate that kind of comedy. So that's always really special to see. Yeah. Absolutely. I think you, you nailed it having that sense of humor, sort of resonate with people from all around the world. So, you traveled with Conan to Japan and Italy, can we expect to see you in any upcoming segment? Uh Once again, I'm never told in advance, believe it or not. Uh Usually I'm given a couple of days notice to pack a bag and get my passport in order. So I don't have an answer for you yet. If I do go, I am confident I will not have advanced notice and I just show up and do what I'm told. Absolutely. Which is something we've seen in many of the segments you're sort of ambushed as you mentioned and he says, pack a bag and you're like, ok, let's do it. Yeah, for some reason, there's this theory that if they tell me in advance I'll overthink. So they like to just spring it on me and that's, that's my life. I like it. Well, it's working. Um OK, so I would be remiss not to ask you one question that many viewers and fans will, will know. Well, what is your role as an associate producer? So I perform a multitude of tasks geared towards the smooth operation of the television show if I do my job, well, no one will even know I exist. Ok. Perfection. Jordan Slansky. Thank you so much.
