Concerns Over Portland's New Law to Ban Facial Recognition by Government, Businesses

September 10, 2020
Portland, Oregon has passed the strongest ban on facial recognition in the U.S. While other cities such as San Francisco, Boston and Oakland have all passed legislation banning government agencies from using facial recognition, Portland's measure also prohibits commercial businesses from using this technology. Mark Douglas, Founder and CEO of adtech firm Steelhouse, says that while Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler calls this measure historic, he isn't nearly as impressed.
