Content Creator Ester Tania Talks Social Media, Acting, and Mental Health

Welcome back to between bells with over two million followers on Tiktok. If you're on the storytime makeup side of Tiktok then you most definitely have seen our next guest dubbed the self care sister on social media, it's easy to watch video after video of her joining us in. Now to discuss is the content creator Esther Tonya, Welcome to the show. That combination, a combination of your makeup tutorials and the story times are just so addicting to watch. I have to jump into this Esther, I mean, what's the key to content like yours that really keeps the people watching? Oh wow, thank you. First off, thank you so much for saying all those sweet things. I really appreciate it. Um you know, there's a lot of hard work that goes into making videos and I think it's about finding your niche um and and having that whatever that may be and really, really working on it, really refining it. Um and it all depends so much on what your viewers like. So you know, you know what views, what videos get the most view and those are the ones that you need to focus on. Um but I am so lucky that I'm able to do this and the story times is what really took off for me and the combination of the makeup or sometimes it's cooking. Sometimes it's doing my nails. Um it's really interesting because it is addictive, you're totally right. Oh yeah, and with over two million followers on Tiktok alone. I mean, how do you deal with the pressure to constantly keep up the constant following. I know that it's addicting, but of course, like, you know, you have to keep coming up with new content almost every day. Right? Yes, exactly. I do. I film every single day. Um, it's really a fun thing for me though. It's, it's not as hard as you would think because it's something that I've always loved, I love being in front of the camera and I love makeup. So I just meshed the two. What what gets harder is, is probably thinking of like what color combinations to do what I'm gonna do on my face today. But ultimately it's so fun and it's, it's the type of thing that if you pick one thing that you really like and you're lucky enough for it to be your job. It just kind of flows. Um, you, your creativity just flows and you're able to, you know, think up of really quirky things and sometimes the things that I posted, I don't think are going to be liked or liked more than anything else because it's different to, uh, you know, it's just more creative. It's me thinking outside the box and um, that's where it gets really fun. Well speaking of color combinations, your eyeshadow combo with your shirt is absolutely amazing. So I'm gonna have to check in on that. But what would you say is your process of course, social media can be fun, but can also be too much for some, especially with mental health. How do you kind of keep that balance? I'm really lucky. I don't tend to get a lot of hate on, on my videos whenever there is a comment that really does bother me, I tend to address it and I just reply in a non negative, non confrontational way because I know it's easy to get wrapped up and and be like, oh my God, how dare she, you know, judge my eyeliner technique. Um I think it's about really trying to just lose that wall or just bring down that wall of, you know, I'm right, my content is always great. You have to learn how to flow and like whatever sometimes make changes and um to be honest with you, there are days where I don't even want to open the app because I know that I might get a little bit disappointed. Um and those are the days where I'm like, you know what, I'm gonna honor the way that I feel and that is how I have to do things if, if it's for myself, it's for my mental health, I'm gonna take the steps to, towards uh completing a task or watching a movie or watching, I love the nanny, like that's my current obsession right now. I'll watch two or three episodes of the nanny and then I'll get back to work, but it's definitely about giving yourself that time to reset and just take a mental break. I love that. And on that note, I mean you're known as a self care sister. What exactly does that mean to you? I think self care is self love and if you start taking care of yourself first and you start putting yourself first, you can then help people around you. And I really, truly believe that from the bottom of my heart, I get chills when I talk about it. If you don't put yourself first and if you're not giving yourself the time of day to you know, have a nice home cooked meal or or even just hang out with friends, if that's a form of self care to you, it's it's about finding those different forms of self care that help you that comfort you, that give you joy, give you fun. Um and if you don't have that in your life, we tend to start thinking negatively, especially with social media, we start getting influenced by what other people are doing or what I'm not doing compared to what someone else is doing. And I have that every single day, and self care to me is is right there with mental health. If you if those two things go hand in hand and if you're not taking care of yourself, the rest of it is not going to catch up. So you really need to do that for yourself. And I think everyone knows what's good for them, That's why on my channel, I really talk about self care when it comes to, you know, advice that I wish I would have given myself when I was 15 years old, skin care, hair care smoothies, workout routines and it all just goes hand in hand. And if we have a little bit of time every single day to give ourselves a little bit of comfort, a little bit of love, we're gonna be better for it, your family, well your friends because you can radiate that positive energy. Um, and that vibration to other people that need that do need it. And I think I do that through video, which I know is insane, but it's such a good way to connect with people and, and kind of uh, influence them in a way that's positive. That really is key because in this world it's so easy to be overworked. So, I mean, I think the best phrase, as you said, self care, treat yourself whatever it is. I think that's just fantastic advice. And as you mentioned, I mean, as I mentioned, well, you have some amazing eyeshadow on right now, what's your favorite makeup trend at the moment? You know, someone asked me this a few weeks ago and I said the no foundation. Um, right now a lot of people are doing like, no foundation, no concealer trend and I really, really like that because it honors your skin and it's a, it's a form of acceptance of your skin. I know there are a lot of people who have issues with their skin, but I think if you really learn to accept that, you know, whatever your skin condition, maybe it opens up a world of fun makeup. It opens up a world of possibility to say, you know what, I can go out and not have a full face of makeup. Um so I think it's it's a good trend because it, it kind of radiates positive thinking towards yourself. But I also love just colorful stuff. I mean, I, I call myself a color file, I love wearing color and I think it dopamine dressing is another thing that's trending right now and it's so exciting. It's so fun. Um it's a really good way of kind of expressing yourself without saying anything. You know, you walk into a room and your dress all colorfully, People are immediately, they're gonna look at you and be like, oh my God, I love what she's wearing. Oh my God, that's I wish I could dress like that. I wish I had, I had the guts to just put on whatever colors I wanted to on my face and I feel like that's a really powerful message to send out to others and also for yourself. That's another form of self care as well and switching gears for our last question. You are also an actor and you're currently taking fans with you through this audition process. What's it like taking your followers with you on this journey. It's exciting. I don't think sometimes they don't realize how easy how simple of a process it can be. Uh and when I open up the doors and like show them what it's like to do an audition and, and you know what it's like to do a callback and sometimes I have to fly myself out for a call back and, you know, to them, it's so interesting. So I really like that because they, a lot of them also want to be actors or models. Uh and it's a really good way for them to see what it's actually like. It's not so glamorous. It's not, you know, this like, you know, this, this beautiful idea that we have of what an actor's life is. It's it's it sometimes tends not to be that way. Um but I'm really excited because I know that whenever I do take them on set with me and I feel my vlogs of day in the life, uh God, what is a day in my life as an actress and I really enjoy showing them what it's what it's like, you know what it's like to sit in and do your makeup or sometimes, you know, the insecurities, I feel on set, you know, and um that's just interesting. I've never seen anyone do that before and, and I I appreciate that when they do watch my videos, they say, you know what, you're actually, uh you know, you're, you're making me want to become an actress or actually, I don't know if I would like that, I don't know if I would want to sit in a trailer all day by myself and wait for my name to be called to go and film a scene. Um you know, it's all, it kind of helps them figure out whether or not they would like to do it and it's just like a little peek inside. But um speaking of, I just booked another two roles, which I'm really excited about and I know thank you, I'm so excited. That's absolutely amazing.
