Welcome back to Between Bells, everyone with over one million followers on Tiktok, a mom to four Children and the creator of at home with Shannon. Our next guest is definitely staying busy. Best known for her, Tiktok's highlighting viral parenting hacks, D I. Y. Activities, recipes and crafts. She's pivoted from a life of finance and real estate to a full time content creator joining us. Now to discuss is Tiktok star Shannen Doherty Shannon, welcome to the show. So I was naming everything you've done on top of it. You've even studied law. So what is your career path leading to this? Mass huge following. How has it been like for you? It's definitely been a journey. I graduated college with a business major in finance and marketing. I came to work in new york city. I started at Madison Square Garden and then went on to finance and I loved it. And I got to see behind the scenes of how to really build a company. While I was working in finance. I went to law school at night, my mom's a lawyer and I thought I was going to use it at my role at the time. But then I also was learning about real estate and I thought you know what, I'm gonna try my own business. So I got into real estate a little bit, which led into my store, Coco and LA LA, which is a women and Children's brand. And during the pandemic, my stores were shut down and I like to stay busy so you can't just leave me at home not working. So that is when I started doing Tiktok and the rest was history. I don't have to tell you almost everybody wants to go viral on social media these days. You seem to have it down. What challenges come with, not only getting videos to go viral, but ensure the content is something that you're passionate about, it's not just about going viral. I think going viral and ensuring its passionate about the real key is just being authentic. I find any time I'm really being true to myself and who I am and connecting with moms out there in the same place. That's when they go viral, when you're yourself and you're just being you, that's my key. Looking at your videos and they just seem so easy and relatable and that's what I love about it. You joined Tiktok in March of 2020 Like you mentioned when the pandemic started, do you think your social media career would have gotten to this level if it had not been for the pandemic? Or is this something that you always wanted to do and had a vision for? I always had a vision of building a business that connected with people that was always in my head. I didn't know exactly how I would do it. I think that my timing on social media was right with the pandemic, Moms were home and we were with our Children and we were connecting on our phones and I had the opportunity to do it. And I went with it and I love that about it. So I do think my timing was right and millions of millions of followers later you post a lot about these lifesaving supermom hacks. What are your top hacks for parents? It's hard to say. Right now. I'm in summer mode with summer coming up. So I feel like my summer hacks have been a huge, huge hit. I think bringing a laundry basket to the beach is a no brainer. Every single mom needs that. Yes. So a collapsible laundry basket, put it in your bag, bring it to the beach and at the end of the day you throw your sand towels, your toy in there, shake it out, put it in your car straight to the laundry room. Oh my God, that's so, such a game. That is one that every mom needs. And then also I've been doing my kids love this one. The makeup brushes and sponges to put on sunscreen. It's sometimes kids don't want to put sunscreen on. It's not fun If you get makeup brushes and little sponges and let them do it like they're putting on makeup. Your kids will load up on so much sunscreen. You won't have to worry about burns. So smart and so simple. Such a simple one. I want to go back to your brand. Coco and what inspired it. Coco and la la I my family and I summer in watch hill Rhode island and I just love the idea of summer vacations with your family and being connected and inspired that through is really what started my stores. I wanted a place that you just felt summer inspiration and you could go there and find fun dresses and summer clothes and just, I really feel inspired being in there. So I love watch Hill and I now knowing your brand, it really fits perfectly there. I spent a lot of summers there to now the brand launched a campaign to encourage handwashing that was in 2020. What I love is the proceeds went to the organization, no kid hungry. Why was it so important for your brand to help? It was so during that time, like I said, we were home and I am very close with my grandparents and my mom and my aunt and we're together almost every single day. So during Covid, that was a really big shock for my Children to be away from their family members. So I create and we just felt so disconnected from everyone and I wanted to help even in the littlest way because I knew so many families were going through what we were going through and even on such a bigger scale, like the families that are helped by no kid hungry. So we created these t shirts as a hope that you would wear them and feel connected to other people around the world going through the same thing. And at that time I just wanted to make people feel inspired and we wanted to give back as much as possible because I could see how much my kids needed their family during that time. And Shannon, what's next for you? Is there a space you want to go into? What are you thinking? I really feel like I'm just getting started. I say that all the time, I feel so fortunate for what we have, but there's still so much I want to do and I want to continue building our brand and connecting with moms around the world and just helping and making the world a little bit of a more positive and inspiring place.
