And COVID-19 cases are on the rise again in the US. But getting your hands on a free test has gotten even harder. The CDC recorded 8000 new COVID-19 hospital admissions during the week ending on July 22. That's a 12% increase from the week before. This is the first uptick in cases since May when the Biden administration announced COVID-19 was no longer a public health emergency. The administration stopped mailing free COVID test kits in June insurers stopped covering costs for over the counter test after the emergency declaration ended, many older tests are also reaching their expiration date. People who want to get tested have to buy their own test which can cost up to $12 a piece.
