Cyrus Newlin, associate fellow, Europe, Russia, and Eurasia program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, joined Cheddar to discuss the highly anticipated meeting between President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Newlin said Biden will likely address a wide range of issues such as election interference, imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, and potential consequences for what the U.S. would deem future aggressive actions. However, he did note that Biden should signal a wish to avoid escalation and emphasized the importance of a conversation around cybersecurity norms in the wake of the Colonial Pipeline and JBS attacks, which American authorities have alleged originated in Russia.
