Healthcare is one of the largest industries in the U.S., and it's widely viewed to be a broken system. Dr. Marty Makary, author of "The Price We Pay" and surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital, said that the cost per capita has ballooned so much, in part, because the business of medicine has superseded care leading to pricing failures and waste. Makary noted that he was inspired to write his book because he wanted people to be more informed about the basics of medical care, including information about pricing for services at hospitals.
