Earnings Breakdown: Apple Tops Estimates but iPhone Sales Disappoint

Welcome back to closing bell and cheddar news. We do have another earnings alert. Take a look at apple shares in the after hours down 1%. The company reporting results here. This was a very important quarter of course as we saw the new iphone start to roll out. So Apple reporting earnings per share of a dollar and 29 cents did exceed expectations by two cents. So kind of in line with expectations revenue just barely edging past expectations at 90 billion. The estimate was 89 billion. So let's run through the product categories of course, because that's the bread and butter of this company and iPhone sales. They did rise. iPad sales actually fell. I think the iPad was the only category that saw that product actually decline in that sales versus the same time a year ago. So max sales rose services sales were higher wearables, home and accessories like the homepod that was higher from the same time a year ago. And the CFO saying that these iphone sales actually set a record for the september quarter exceeding the company's forecast did say um that it was better than what the company expected in spite of the fact that the stronger dollar was a significant negative. We've seen other companies say that too. So, um actually it looks like the company saw an all time record for the Mac. Thanks to the introduction of the new generation of Macbook Air and Macbook Pro and Apple Ceo, tim cook weighing in saying quote as we head into the holiday season with our most powerful lineup ever. We're leaving with our values in every action we take in every decision that we make. Now, even though the company did beat on the top and the bottom line and it did report record iphone sales, it looks like those iphone sales were a little bit lighter than what the street had expected and same was the case with services. Now you might recall the Apple iphone 14 Rollout has been marred with hiccups. Um, it was expected to provide stability when actually filming shooting video on the camera. But of course there were issues with that early on, especially with the software upgrade as well. So I think it would be fair to say that this iphone 14 rollout was underwhelming. Even though for the company amid higher prices, it was able to set a new iphone sales record for this september quarter. So kind of a muted reaction to be honest. For the stock. The stock is down just 4/10 of a percent. Doesn't look like the company provided any guidance. Of course guidance is a key indicator as to how the stock will move in the after hours and in the following trading day as well. So we'll see whether or not tIM Cook and the CFO address that any sort of guidance ahead for the current quarter, the holiday period, Which might be the bulk of these iPhone 14 sales, as well as the next 12 months. So again, that's just down fraction in the after hours.
