Evolution of the Workplace

Welcome back to on the job presented by ADP The pandemic has presented a unique opportunity for employers to take a step back and reevaluate their workplace as people's needs have shifted employers have adapted to meet these needs. So what do employee benefits look like in a post pandemic world to talk to us just about that is Giselle moda principal future of work. ADP welcome to the show Giselle, I'm so excited to talk about this cause Kristin and I were talking about this in the last block. What are some of the new benefits stemming from the pandemic that employees are now looking for that? They probably never thought about maybe two years ago. People want to be seen as people, you know, more as humans and not as a human resource. So flexibility as you were mentioning before and that's my top concern to its flexibility and choice. So people in organizations right now employees, they want from the time that they get hired to the time that they succeeded in organization or their succession. They want choices along every step of the way. So like think about alternative pay methods, hybrid and remote work as you all were describing before. Uh flexibility and scheduling as well. So perhaps somebody is a caregiver they have a personal appointment to take care of. Can I choose when I can work and get certain things done? So there's a little bit of that in there. And finally a focus on skills. Can I take my career and truly map out where I want to go next. Can I work on projects throughout the organization? And so that's you know, flexibility and choice? I would say I love that. Let's talk about workplace culture, what our employees looking for when it comes to that. I think that one is more of meet me where I am. So again think about people who have different needs and they're looking around, they're saying you know what the pandemic happened, there was a global shift even in societal perceptions and now things like diversity, equity and inclusion and not just focusing on D. And I but also like what is my organization doing to commit and take action so I can hold them accountable to it. So E. S. G. Goals, environmental society and government governance goals is another one. And then finally just thinking about again focusing on the skills, can I advance my career? Can I have you know, equitable opportunities here while I'm here? So be organizations are being held to a higher standard now let's talk about those organizations, employers especially, what are they doing to attract and retain their top talent? I think that one is a really a deconstruction of what work workplace and the workforce is and has been for so many years so now organizations are looking back at job titles and roles and they're deconstructing those and saying do I really need to have those certain skills and qualifications from an individual or can I get someone who perhaps was an ex felon or was um someone who doesn't have perhaps the skills that I needed for this role. But do they have a base level and then I can scale them up? Right, so all those kind of things are what organizations are taking a step back being less decentralized, offering remote and hybrid so that they can fish from a broader pond of candidates because they need those skills. How do you see the asks of employees possibly evolving in the future? What do you see more of and what do you think we'll see less of in our post pandemic world definitely. It's gonna be less of hierarchy structures, like the way our grandparents and our parents saw work before. I mean that those days are evolving and so as a society evolves as technology evolves, the needs and the wants of employees are going to continue to evolve too. And it's like again give me flexibility, give me choice, allow me to take on gig work. Can I expand my skills and be more like a startup like an entrepreneur, even within my organization? And so we're seeing again that more of a uh let me take hold and and ownership and agency over my career. And also I'm holding you accountable organization to certain things that matter to me as an individual and the society that keeps evolving.
