EXCLUSIVE: Facebook Takes on LinkedIn With New Jobs Tool
One in four people in the U.S. have used Facebook’s job search feature to find a job in the past year, according to Alex Hemil, Vice President of the company’s Local vertical.
In an exclusive interview with Cheddar, he said the free tool really helps “people in businesses to connect in ways that are valuable to them.” That includes many small businesses.
Hemil acknowledged that some of the platform’s success has come from things like job seeker groups rather than use of the search tool itself.
When it first launched last year, the tool was only available in the U.S. and Canada markets. On Wednesday, though, it expanded to 40 different countries.
Earlier this year, in an attempt to salvage its image, Facebook announced it wants users to see more from “friends, family, and groups” and “less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media” in the News Feed.
The jobs tool is aligned with that effort, explained Hemil.
“If you’re a person who’s looking for a job and [end up] finding work, we believe that’s a pretty meaningful interaction” and a value-add for the user.
