Fall Movie Preview With Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis

Fall is almost here, believe it or not. And that means Fall movies are going to be hitting theaters in coming weeks today. We've got a little preview for you here to help us break down the upcoming movies to get excited about Eric Davis, managing editor of Fandango. Welcome back to the show, Eric. Always great to see you. Yes, thanks for having me. So let's start with Killers of the Flower Moon, a list cast director, right? And a new release date as of yesterday. Tell us more. Yeah. So October 20th, this is Martin Scorsese's next film. Ok. So I think this is likely the biggest Oscar contender that's coming out this Fall. It stars Leonardo dicaprio and Robert De Niro, both of whom have starred in other Scorsese movies but never with each other in the same film. Uh This one is based on a real story of the Osage Indian murders of the 19 twenties, which is actually the FB I's first big case and it revolves around a conspiracy to murder a family to inherit their oil rights. It is dark, it is brutal. It is very Martin Scorsese crime epic. Uh But yeah, it's a very good film though. Ok. Now let's move on to the Marvels, which is a highly anticipated film for Marvel. Originally, it was set to be released this summer. What do we expect is Marvel back? Yeah, I would say maybe the most anticipated film of the fall season. This is a Captain Marvel uh sequel, Brie Larson returns and this one, she gets her powers entangled with two other popular comic book heroes, Monica Rambo played by Tiana Paris and Miss Marvel played by Iman Vela. Miss Marvel, of course, had her own TV series. This is her first time in a film. I'm excited about that. Let's talk about the prequel to the Hunger Games franchise, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snake, written by the same author Suzanne Collins. Of course, tell us more about that. Yeah. So this is a prequel. My daughter asked me about this the other day. She says Jennifer Lawrence back. I said no, because this one takes place 64 years before the first film. But there are characters from that series in this 11 being President Snow Corona Snow played by a young Tom Bly. And this is about his relationship with a woman going into the 10th Hunger Games played by Ray. She looks great in the movie too. Now, a new movie coming out, one of my favorite directors, Ridley Scott wants to take us back in time to Napoleon. So what do we need to know about this historical drama. I would say you need to know he's re teaming with Joaquin Phoenix. Remember these guys made Gladiator together, Gladiator won best picture. And this one, Phoenix plays Napoleon part and this is about his rise to power as a military commander uh told through the perspective of his relationship, his marriage with Josephine played by Vanessa Kirby, who was very addictive, very volatile marriage. The two of them had OK, I'm sucked in. I can't wait for that one. Now, let's go to the horror franchise. The next installment in the Exorcist is the believer. What's this about? Well, this is a sequel to what many regard as the scariest movie of all time? 1970 eight's the Exorcist Ellen Burston from that film. Her character returns in this one to help a single father played by Leslie Odom Junior whose daughter and her friend become possessed. You know what happens next? Uh So yeah, this one's gonna be scary. It's made directed by the guy that just did the Halloween movies. Remember those new Halloween? So I'm looking forward to it pretty clearly acclaimed. I thought it was a good uh retelling of that story as well. So excited for that one. But how about comedy? So Taika Waititi, next film is next goal wins. That's based on the 2015 documentary about the American Samoa football team. Tell me more about it. Yeah. So this is like the infamous American Samoa. Uh football team who lost 31 to nothing in the 2001 World Cup. Uh And so this one picks them up going into the 2014 World Cup. They grab a down on his luck coach played by Michael Fassbender to try to turn things around. This is actually one of two films. Fast Bender is in this fall. He's also in David Fincher's the killer. Haven't seen him in a few years. So it's nice to have one of our best actors and it seems like an a list cast just from the trailer. Yeah, it looks, yeah, it looks great. And I, you know, underdog sports story, you know, and I think we all love those and I think Taiko is so great and at, at kind of blending comedy and drama, I think this looks well and let's talk about kids movies, one from Disney called Wish. Is this a family movie? What can we expect? Yeah, without a doubt. I mean, Disney, the, the idea of a wish has been with Disney through their 100 years. It's their 100 year anniversary wish upon a star. And so this one is about a girl who does wish upon a star. That star comes down and hangs out is a character, the music in this one, this is from the folks who did frozen. So, you know, the music is gonna be great and addictive. Uh parents beware your kids are gonna be obsessed with this, we're gonna see it over and over and over again. All right, real quick. Pick one movie. What are you most excited for this fall? You know what? I have to go with that Killers of the Flower Moon, that Scorsese film. Just because it's great to have Martin Scorsese back. I think it's gonna be him versus Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer for Best Picture, maybe Barbie sliding in there as a spoiler. So it's gonna, you know, shape up to be a really fun award scene. Right. And it's nice, it's nice to have these movies back in theaters. Exactly. Yeah. All right. Thank you so much as always to ban Dago, managing editor, Eric Davis.
