A federal judge has declared the DACA immigration program illegal. The ruling will keep in place an existing rule preventing the federal government from accepting new applications but will allow the policy to continue for existing recipients. Deferred action for childhood arrivals or DACA is an Obama era policy preventing deportation of people who arrive in the US as Children known as Dreamers, Texas and eight other states sued to end the program arguing the Obama administration was not authorized to create it without congressional approval. The Biden administration has criticized the judge's ruling saying it disagrees with the court's decision and that it will continue to defend the DACA program from legal challenges.
