Florida is the latest state to codify into law legislation targeting transgender student athletes. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) this week signed a bill barring transgender women and girls from playing on public school sports teams for girls. The legislation came despite the fact that there were no instances in the sunshine state of a transgender athlete preventing a cisgender athlete from competing on any team.
