Former Cheddar News Reporter Takes on 2023 NYC Marathon

All right. Well, Ashley Master already a former reporter who's now at our sister network News, 12 New York took on the New York City Marathon again this year, last weekend after collapsing last year, take a look at her incredible journey. My name is Ashley Mastronardi. I'm a multimedia journalist with News 12 New York. And today I'm running my sixth New York City marathon really hard raise. Last year, I passed out at mile 22 of the New York City Marathon and I was in the hospital for days. The news came out and did a story on me. The reporter who did the story called me and encouraged me to get back into journalism. The rest is history to be covering the marathon this year. As a journalist for 12 years, the marathon starts on the Staten Island side of the Verrazano Bridge Marathon. Village is a pre party of sorts. This is what I am most excited for this morning. The therapy. A few hours later, it was showtime, I felt strong. The 1st 16 miles of the race there are kids giving high fives. People are sharing. It is truly a party here in Brooklyn around the half marathon mark. I got to go home. We're about to go into Queens and as a Queens native I was born and raised there. It's really exciting to us to run to my borough. Things got hard after mile 16. This is where I passed out last year. I think I may make it, but I will say I'm not feeling good and I want this to be over. But my friends and family along the course kept me going. You're doing it. You are almost done. You're almost done. Just a few 100 ft to go after a stop in the medical tent and ton of blue Gatorade. I was a 2023 New York City marathon finisher. I am at the finish line of the marathon. This was such a hard one today. I didn't know if I was going to make it, but I'm so grateful that I got across my race wasn't perfect, but I did it one step at a time. Oh, my gosh, Ashley was so proud of Ashley. I can't wait to see her in person and congratulate her as well.
