Furnishing Your New Place on a Budget

No one likes moving, but tens of millions of Americans do it every single year and summer is the most popular season. Over 80% of yearly moves happened between April and September our very own channel and is on the scene to help you furnish that new home or apartment without breaking the bank. Hey, Shannon. Well, I'm not really sure what this is, but I think I need it in my home when I'm decorating. And if you are ready to decorate your home, your apartment or your dorm room, we have tips for you today because we are with Kendra Larson at the court show room. So what do we need to know first about decorating? Kendra? Well, if you want to stretch your dollar, which I heard is important here, you're gonna want to choose furniture that has a lot of functionality. Ok. What I mean by that is take this sectional. Um We have an ottoman here, but it's not just an ottoman, it's also a cocktail table. So it does two things and you can use it as a decorating piece as well. Absolutely. Absolutely. So if you can repurpose a piece of furniture in more than one way. That's always gonna, that's always gonna be more affordable. Let's take this dining chair here. Ok. Um, this is a dining chair, but look at it, what else could it be a chair in any room? Maybe good? And a bedroom chair. It can also if you're having people over and you don't have enough seating in your living room, grab it from your bedroom, put it in your living. So that's true because a lot of times you're not using them in the dining room at the same time, you use them in the bedroom anyway. So multi purpose, I love that. A lot of people, they over decorate and they just put too much furniture. So that would help there. What other tips do you have for us on not overdecorating or under decorating? Sometimes people's apartments are empty. Well, I'll tell you what helps with both those situations and anchor piece and what we call an anchor piece is a really great and large piece of artwork on the wall. Ok. Look at the space. It takes nothing and then you just put one item underneath it and it really makes the whole room pop. So again, you don't have to fill your apartment or home with a lot of pieces. Now, what if you don't have a lot of money and you can't spend a lot of money on a big piece of artwork should you focus on? Ok. One anchor piece and then the rest stuff is just cheap stuff you buy. Well, I think so. You need to figure out where you're spending your time to. What's your favorite room? If it's your bedroom, spend your money in your bedroom, that's your haven, that's where you're gonna spend the most money time. And I think it's also important to tell people about which items they should spend more money on because a lot of times they're like, oh, I'm just going to buy a cheap couch, but then you have to buy another 12 months later because you broke it. Yes, the quality goes hand in hand with, where are you spending your time? If you, if you use that sofa, you need to spend your money on that sofa, especially having kids to jump on stuff. You need to make sure it's quality. Absolutely. All right. Now, what about saving space? You know, New York City is not a lot of space. Does this glass table help with that? It seems like it opens it up a little more. Absolutely. Glass and mirrors always make your space too bigger. Yes, that's a good tip. Now, what about colors? I know colors are big when decorating. You got to change the seasons. How do you not have as much stuff in your place and not spend so much money on different colors because you gotta change the season every time it changes? Well, so we, you'll see right. Here that we have green going throughout the living room room and bedroom green serves additional purposes. Green is bringing the outdoors in which is a huge trend. Right now, people feel good with nature. Green represents nature and I love these green pillows so you can use them in any room pretty much like they're also soft as well. Right. Our pillow packs can really spruce up anything. Yes. And the green really helps. Oh, now could you also like you said, multi purpose, take the pillows off the bed, put them on the couch and when you have coming over and I'm like, ok, I don't have anybody here, Shannon you are hired at. Yes. Yes, that is actually that is a great repurposing of your pillow packs. So any last minute tips on things we need to know or things that we can, I mean useful because you guys, I didn't realize you guys actually spend a lot of time renting furniture. So who is a good candidate to rent furniture? Oh my goodness. It's a broad range. It crosses all generations of people, but it's anybody who wants flexibility. So we have home staging for for the residential real estate market. We also have students who are coming or visiting professors but a lot of people are here because of their job. Digital. Yeah, only here for a short amount of time. Why spend the money on furniture? Just rent it? Ok. Rent it or get inspiration from the Court Short World. OK. I like it. Kendra.
